Meet the Candidate for City Council: Candice B. Rusie

The eight candidates who filed for the St. Clair Shores City Council August primary recently provided short biographies to the Women's Civic League of St. Clair Shores.

Eight candidates are running in the August 6 City Council primary election. 
Below are the candidate biographies provided to the Women's Civic League of St. Clair Shores, and their video introductions are attached to the story:

Age: 31
Years living in St. Clair Shores: Approximately 22 years
Occupation: Attorney
Incumbent: Yes
Previously held elected office: City Council, elected Nov. 2009
Education: Lake Shore High School, 1999; Wayne State University, B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, 2004; Michigan State University College of Law, J.D., magna cum laude, 2007.
St. Clair Shores community involvement: Council liaison for Older Person's Advisory Commission, Memorial Day Parade Committee, Cultural Committee. Volunteer for numerous civic organizations, including SCS Goodfellows and Lac Ste Claire Kiwanis, sponsor of Lac Saint Clair "Candy Canes" team, DPW "Adopt-a-Road" program road adopter, and founder of the SCS Dinner Club.
Top three things you would like to accomplish if elected

  • Continue fiscal responsibility and conscientious stewardship of resources - smart budgeting and purchases while maintaining and even increasing services to residents.
  • Continue emphasis on constituent services and communication - receptiveness and responsiveness to resident concerns, including frequent use of City of St. Clair Shores official Facebook page to answer questions and help solve problems.
  • Continue resident - and business-friendly initiatives - continue analysis and revisions of current ordinances and practices to make SCS more fair, attractive and competitive while balancing the competing and complimentary needs and necessities of all member of our taxpayer base.
