Looking to head out on Lake St. Clair, or neighboring waterways, to fish this weekend? Here are some highlights of what is biting.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has released the weekly fishing report for area waters. According to a release, this Saturday, May 25, is the opening day of bass season on the Great Lakes and all inland waters except Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River and the Detroit River. Bass season does not open until the third Saturday in June. The agency reports that the "early catch and release season has been excellent so the opener should be as well." As the Jefferson Yacht Club prepares for its 56th year, club officials are planning a number of events on land and sea.
A new season of events and activities are underway for boaters, and non-boaters, at the Jefferson Yacht Club on the Nautical Mile. The club, established in 1957, has grown over the years to include the current 3,160-square-foot clubhouse which is used for dinners, events and meeting and features a full-service bar and kitchen offers a variety of menu items from Chef Reggie Matthews. With the start of a new season, the club is planning a series of events starting with the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo parties on May 4, and then continues with backyard beautification projects prior to Memorial Day weekend pool opening. The newest restaurant on the Nautical Mile opened May 1 in the former Beach Grill restaurant.
The newest waterfront restaurant in St. Clair Shores has opened in a familiar location on the Nautical Mile. The Tin Fish opened Wednesday in the location of the Beach Grill in Jefferson Beach Marina. While the exterior of the restaurant has remained nearly the same, areas of the interior have been remodeled including the main dining room which features fish sculptures and photos along the wall. The large mural of Jefferson Beach Marina on the dining room wall has also been replaced with a wall of mirrors. Also, with the return of warm weather, the waterfront outdoor seating has reopened. The ice has melted, shrink wrap is being removed from vessels and activity along the Nautical Mile is beginning to pick up as the new boating season is underway in St. Clair Shores. St. Clair Shores will be hosting the Monster Quest VII bass tournament in June which may attract up to 100 boats to compete on Lake St. Clair, which has been named "America's best bass lake."
St. Clair Shores will be the host to the city's first major bass tournament this summer when Monster Quest VII arrives June 22 at the 9 Mile boat ramp. Organizers estimate up to 100 boats, with two people per boat who will be joined by their families on shore, are expected to participate in the event. "We are really excited," said Parks and Recreation Director Greg Esler. "It is going to bring a lot of business to the city and the Nautical Mile." The tournament is being presented by Terry Melvin and Ken Neeley who launched anglers from Harrison Township for previous events. The boats would then head down to St. Clair Shores to fish. Crews recently completed the demolition of the vacant Shell gas station on 9 Mile and Jefferson. City officials stated the demolition was voluntary on the part of the owner, and ground contamination was remediated. Mike's on the Water and Brownie's on the Lake will be reopening for the season Thursday.
It is another sign of spring in St. Clair Shores - the reopening of restaurants along the Nautical Mile for the coming boating season. Mike's on the Water is scheduled to open Thursday and will feature new items including white fish dip, spinach chicken salad with all-natural chicken and mahi Reuben on marble rye according to the restaurant's Facebook page. Just down the avenue, Brownie's on the Lake will also be reopening for the season Thursday and will be featuring a new oyster bar, according the restaurant's Facebook page. While two of the existing restaurants plan to open for this summer, one restaurant on the drawing board recently received approval for a liquor license. St. Clair Shores City Council recently approved the dredging of the channel leading into the Lac Ste. Claire Marina.
Boaters will have an easier time entering and exiting Lac Ste. Claire Marina after City Council approved the dredging of the channel leading into the facility. Council approved spending up to $75,928 to Dean Marine and Excavating to remove dredge the channel. "It is necessary to remove the sediment that has accumulated where the marina outlets to Lake St. Clair and to provide ingress and egress for boats," said John Chown, an engineer with Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick. The build-up of sediment, and low water levels made it necessary to conduct the dredging. Additionally, the St. Clair Shores Parks and Recreation Department will have a booth for the first time at the Spring Boating Expo in Novi to promote the amenities at Lac Ste. …

Went to lunch there yesterday, watched the manager and cook HARASS 2 male customers, for sending their food back and them refused to give them a refund. Our food was just o.k. nothing to rave about and the service was slow.   more ›
