Spring is the Time to Sell Your Home

Getting ready to put your home on the market? 'Tis the season, but be sure you de-clutter and get organized first, says a local organization guru.

Spring is a great time to sell your home, according to lendingtree.com.  If you’re getting ready to sell your home, Andrea Wolf wants you to do a knick-knack check, among other things. Wolf, who has been a professional organizer for the past four years and runs Huntington Woods-based NEAT — Need Everything Away and Tidy, says even just a few knick knacks can break a sale, especially if they’re ultra-personal. Here, she shares her best home-staging and de-cluttering tips. Oh, and if you’re not selling your home, some of these insider secrets could still work for you. • Scale down the amount of photos around the home. You don't want people to be focused on the amount of "strangers" posted/hung around the house. This goes for knick knacks, …

This is excellent advice. Staging or preparing to sell not only puts more money in your pocket, it gets you sold in the first place. Home buyers purchase emotionally, so you must be ready for them. Other than price and aggressive advertising, getting your home ready to sell is the most important step. Actually, it comes first.   more ›

From maintaining the mower to raking, aerating and fertilizing, here's what you can do – and when – to ensure the grass is greener on your side of the driveway.

We can probably say that it’s safe now to trade snow shovels for garden shovels, snowplows for lawn mowers and mittens for garden gloves. With temperatures climbing into the 60s on a regular basis it’s a downright heat wave — plenty warm to start sprucing up lawns and garden beds. Now is the time to consider everything from mulching grass and checking for disease to inspecting your lawn mower and choosing a date to fertilize. Here, lawn and garden experts offer nine tips for treating your patch of green well and getting it in tip-top shape: Inspect your lawn mower, said Joe Kosiara, master gardener at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores. “Pull the plug wire, clean under the deck, remove and sharpen the blade, remove and …

Freeze Warning Issued for Monday Night, Tuesday Morning

Temperatures expected to drop into the 20s overnight which will threaten newly budded plants.

Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing overnight, which could threaten all those early blooming spring flowers. Low temperatures could fall into 20s tonight and early Tuesday morning. Because of these cold temperatures, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from 11 p.m.- 10 a.m. Tuesday. That means newly budded and sensitive outdoor plants could be killed if left uncovered. Representatives from the Soulliere Garden Center recommended covering plants with freeze cloths, newspapers or sheets. Gardeners can also spray a product called Freeze Proof on the plants.  Click here for additional advice on how to protect your plants.
