Shores Firefighters Join Community in Fundraiser for Fallen Westland Firefighter

St. Clair Shores firefighters joined WCSX, Roy O'Brien Ford and Wally's Frozen Custard Monday to raise funds for Brian Woehlke, a 29-year-old Dearborn resident, who died while fighting a strip mall fire.

Members of St. Clair Shores Fire Fighters Union Local 1744 took to the streets Monday evening to help raise funds for a fellow firefighter who died while battling a fire at a strip mall in Westland. Off-duty firefighters held their boots high in the intersection of 9 Mile and Mack to collect donations for the Brian Woehlke Fund, which was set up after the 29-year-old Wayne-Westland firefighter died from injuries sustained while fighting the fire on May 8. The fundraiser was organized by radio station WCSX-FM, which had four donation locations set up Monday around Metro Detroit including Roy O'Brien Ford in St. Clair Shores. Additionally, Wally's Frozen Custard provided cones to those who made donations from the mobile catering fire truck. …

Roy O'Brien to Host Fundraiser for Fallen Wayne-Westland Firefighter

Roy O'Brien Ford will be hosting a fundraiser form 5-7 p.m. Monday for the Brian Woehlke Fund, which was established after he died fighting a fire in a strip mall.

Roy O'Brien Ford will be hosting a fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Monday for a Wayne-Westland firefighter who died while battling a fire at a strip mall in Westland on May 8. Brian Woehlke went missing about 9:30 a.m., according to Click on Detroit. His body was later found in the debris of the two businesses, Electric Stick and Marvaso's Italian Grill, at the strip mall on North Wayne Road. The 29-year-old from Dearborn had been a member of the Wayne-Westland Fire Department for only 10 months when he died. He was also a husband, and a father of a 13-month old daughter Ava. Ice Cream Shops Reopen for the Season

Snow may be on the ground, but there is a sure sign that spring is on the way - the opening of the seasonal ice cream shops.

The temperatures may be as cool as a soft-serve cone, but fans of local seasonal ice cream shops that have missed their favorites treats during the winter can get their fill today as their storm windows come down and the open signs are illuminated. Macomb and St. Clair Shores Officials Celebrate Wally's Grand Opening

Local and county officials joined friends and family of the owners of Wally's Frozen Custard Saturday for a grand opening celebration.

Matt and Eliza Ahearn were surrounded by friends, family along with local and county officials Saturday to celebrate the opening of Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was part of a two day grand opening celebration that concludes today. Among the events planned for today include product samples, coloring contests and clowns. For nearly 60 years Wally's had been a destination for frozen treats on Harper, south of 8 Mile, in Harper Woods. But the business outgrew the original 700-square-foot building, and the Ahearns built a  a new location, on the corner of Harper and Elizabeth. The new facility features with additional parking, a drive-thru and a 2,600-square-foot building to serve customers.

Wally's Frozen Custard, Red Olive Restaurant, Massage Green Open in St. Clair Shores

Red Olive Restaurant opens today, Wally's Frozen Custard hosts a grand opening celebration this weekend and Massage Green is now open in St. Clair Shores.

After a summer of renovations, improvements and relocations, St. Clair Shores is welcoming a host of new business openings. Among the new and relocated businesses which have opened this week include: Red Olive The 100-seat Greek, Mediterranean and American restaurant is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. today. The restaurant occupies a part of the former Blockbuster store on Harper. This is the 11th location in Metro Detroit for Red Olive. The owners of Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station will hold a grand opening weekend Oct. 27-28.

Construction is nearly complete on the new Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station on Harper in St. Clair Shores and the owners are planning a grand opening celebration during the weekend of Oct. 27-28. Get in Your Last Licks As Wally's Prepares for Move to St. Clair Shores

The owners of Wally's Frozen Custard, the iconic, east side frozen custard shop, will close Sunday in preparation to move their business to St. Clair Shores. The estimated opening date for the new location is Oct. 6.

The owners of Wally's Frozen Custard will soon be closing the iconic, yellow building in Harper Woods in preparation to move the business to St. Clair Shores. For more than 60 years, generations of families in St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes have visited the shop for frozen treats. But come Sunday, it will be the final day to get a twist or Boston cooler at the current location. Business Brief: Concrete Work Begins at Wally's

Crews from Pat Johnson Inc. Concrete have begun work on the cement around the new Wally's Frozen Custard on Harper.

Construction crews have begun work on the concrete, and entrances, for the new Wally's Frozen Custard. The roof and walls of the 2,600-square-foot building are complete, and work has started on interior and cement of the building on Harper at Elizabeth. When complete, the building drive-thru window for frozen treats and items from an expanded menu including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels and other items they featured at The Galley Cafe, which they formerly operated at the St. Clair Shores Library. The current location in Harper Woods will close upon completion of the new building.

Roof Added to New Wally's Frozen Custard

Construction continues on the new home of Wally's Frozen Custard on Harper, south of Nine Mile Road, in St. Clair Shores.

Construction crews have completed the walls and added a roof to the building that will become new home of Wally's Frozen Custard. The brick walls of the 2,600-square-foot building are complete, and work has shifted to the roof. Owner Matt Ahearn hopes to have the frozen custard shop to be complete by the Harper Cruise on Aug. 29, but even if it is not done, they will have a presence in the popular event. When complete, the building drive-thru window for frozen treats and items from an expanded menu including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels and other items they featured at The Galley Cafe, which they formerly operated at the St. Clair Shores Library. The current location in Harper Woods will close upon completion of the new building.

Construction Starts on Wally's in St. Clair Shores

Construction started Tuesday on the new home of Wally's Frozen Custard on Harper, south of Nine Mile Road, in St. Clair Shores.

Construction crews began excavating and preparing a vacant parcel at Harper and Elizabeth Tuesday for the new Wally's Frozen Custard. Owner Matt Ahearn expects construction of the new frozen custard shop to take about three months. Once complete, the current location in Harper Woods will close and one week later the new building will open. Ahearn said the new building will offer a greater number of parking spots than the current location in Harper Woods. Additionally, the 2,600-square-foot brick building will have a drive-thru window for frozen treats and items from an expanded menu including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels and other items they featured at The Galley Cafe, which they formerly operated at the St. Clair Shores Library. …
