History came to life Friday at Jefferson Middle School as members of the armed services were honored at a Veterans Breakfast. The annual event brings together members of the military who served their country, and students, for a morning of special events that culminated in a stirring parade through the halls of the school.

Here are a few items to get your Friday started. 1. Add an extra layer of clothes today if you are attending an outdoor Veterans Day Service. The National Weather Service is forecasting mostly cloudy skies with a high near 45. There will be west winds between 13 and 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. 2. St. Clair Shores City Hall, Public Library and 40th District Court will be closed for Veterans Day. Trash collection will continue as scheduled. 3. Macomb County offices and courts will also be closed. 4. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Bruce Post 1146 will host a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. today. It will be outdoors, weather permitting. 5. VIDEO: Patriotic Celebration Honors Veterans at Macomb Community College
A Veterans Day celebration was held Nov. 10 at the center campus of Macomb Community College.
In honor of Veterans Day, Macomb Community College held a special ceremony Nov. 10 to recognize local members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The program included a 21-gun salute by the rifle squad of the Macomb County Detachment 154 Marine Guard, comments from Col. Ronald Shun of the U.S. Army, a moment of silence for the nation's fallen heroes and a special performance by Yates, Macomb's All-American Frisbee dog.

Bruce Post VFW Honors Veterans
Veterans, their families and the community gathered to honor those who served.
Bill Murart stood ramrod straight as he saluted the American flag during the singing of the national anthem at a Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bruce Post 1146 in St. Clair Shores. He was one of dozens of military veterans, family and members of the community who gathered under the American flag, and around a memorial monument, to honor those who served and the men and women who are currently serving around the world. "This means a lot," said Murart, a Korean War Army veteran who has family members who have served in every war from World War I through the Vietnam War. "It is important to keep remembering."
