United States Postal Service's Postage Rates Increase

New stamp will allow you to mail letters anywhere in the world for one set price of $1.10.

The cost of sending most letters and packages will jumped slightly Sunday when the U.S. Postal Service upped its rates to help cover the costs of delivering the mail. Forever Stamps, the ones that remain good despite future postal rate increases, will increase to 46 cents. Here's a rundown of price increases: The USPS will also introduce a new First-Class Mail Global Forever Stamp. The stamp allows people to mail letters anywhere in the world for $1.10. In addition, several new shipping services products will be available in January. Free tracking will be offered to all packages, including retail Priority Mail and Parcel Post. Driver Ticketed in Postal Vehicle Crash in St. Clair Shores

A 54-year-old St. Clair Shores resident who struck a U.S. Postal Service vehicle Wednesday was ticketed causing the accident.

A 54-year-old St. Clair Shores resident who disregarded a red light Wednesday and struck a U.S. Postal Service truck was ticketed for allegedly causing the accident. The driver of the sports utility vehicle was driving southbound on Harper and struck postal service truck, which was traveling eastbound on 11 Mile Road. The force of the accident caused the postal vehicle to roll over. St. Clair Shores Fire and EMS personnel extracted the driver out of the vehicle, according to St. Clair Shores Police Lt. Steve Lambert. Both drivers were transported to St. John Hospital and were in stable condition. An update on their current condition was not available. U.S. Postal Service Vehicle Involved in Accident

A U.S. Postal Service truck was apparently struck by a sport utility vehicle Wednesday afternoon at 11 Mile Road and Harper in St. Clair Shores.

A U.S. Postal Service truck was apparently struck by a sports utility vehicle about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 11 Mile Road and Harper in St. Clair Shores. The Postal Service truck was struck on the left side of the vehicle, damaging the door of the truck and apparently knocking out the front windshield. The truck struck the opposite side of the right-hand-drive truck. St. Clair Shores Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Witt that two people were transported to St. John Hospital in Detroit in stable condition.  Witt added that when fire department personnel arrived on the scene, the postal vehicle was on the curb of the northeast corner of the intersection. Reform Bill an Important Step in Preserving U.S. Postal Service

Sen. Carl Levin says U.S. Postal Service faces "an extraordinary financial challenge" in the future.

In late April, the U.S. Senate approved an important bill to reform the U.S. Postal Service. Though the bill was not perfect, it makes important changes to help the Postal Service adapt and thrive in the 21st century. And it includes an amendment that I helped write that I believe will help protect postal facilities in Michigan and across the nation from unjustified closures. There is little doubt that change is necessary; the Postal Service faces an extraordinary financial challenge, and it must make changes to take into account a new reality in which physical mail has in many cases been replaced by electronic communication. But in making these necessary reforms, we must ensure that all the American people can continue to rely on the U.S…
