A representative from the Detroit Red Wings visited St. Joan of Arc Tuesday to share health tips, donate equipment along with showing team and school spirit.
St. Joan of Arc Catholic School hosted the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday as part of the team's School Assembly Program. The program, which is a partnership between Detroit Red Wings Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Kroger Company of Michigan, included a lesson on exercise and healthy eating tips, a donation of two full sets of floor hockey equipment complete with hockey sticks and goalie nets along with a shootout competition.

There are no St. Clair Shores closed due to the cold, but St. Joan of Arc Catholic School is closed due to a building a problem.
A wind chill advisory is in effect for St. Clair Shores and much of southeast Michigan, the National Weather Service announced Monday evening. The blistering cold winter weather has already caused one school in St. Clair Shores to cancel classes for Tuesday. According to WDIV-TV, Channel 4, multiple closings had been announced as of Tuesday morning, including St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in St. Clair Shores. According to the school website, is it closed due to a building problem. The NWS reports that this "shot of arctic air ... will be the coldest of the season." Five Scouts from Pack 1438 at St. Joan of Arc School in St. Clair Shores sold more than $1,000 of popcorn and earned the right to shave their Cubmaster's hair.
Mike Cavazos, the Cubmaster of Pack 1438 at St. Joan of Arc Chruch, lost a bet - and his hair. He challenged the Scouts in his pack to sell over $1,000 of popcorn, and whoever exceeded that goal, would have the opportunity to shave his hair. In total, the Pack sold $23,000 of popcorn which is split between the Pack, Council and Boy Scouts of America. "Scouting is all about fun and learning core values of Scouting," Cavazos said. At least two groups from St. Clair Shores will be participating in the annual Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade.
Before Santa Claus travels down Kercheval in Grosse Pointe, the jolly man in red and his reindeer will be preceded by at least two groups from St. Clair Shores. The Backpack Brigade comprised of students from St. Joan of Arc Catholic School will be proudly marching from The Hill shopping district to the Village shopping district in the City of Grosse Pointe. Also, a group of 20 dancers girls from Casali School of Dance will perform along the parade route. The Santa Claus Parade starts at 10 a.m. Friday.

Msgr. G. Michael Bugarin honored for his support of faith based schools by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools (MANS) Board of Trustees.
The Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools Board of Trustees has named the pastor of St. Joan of Arc as one of the four recipients of the 2011 Fr. John B. Zwers award. Msgr. G. Michael Bugarin, was honored Wednesday at MANS Administrators’ Conference in Bellaire, for his support of faith-based schools. He was nominated for the award by Donald Ancypa, principal of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School. "(Msgr. Bugarin) is an excellent role model for pastors in that he sees all of the wonderful opportunities that the parish school provides for evangelization and faith formation," he said in a release. I can't believe the schools are open. Minimal bus service in South Lake, Lakeshsore. None in Lakeview. I bet there will be high abscences in all three districts today. I know I wouldn't let my child walk or stand at a bus stop. Not everyone has a car to drive their kids to school. Some families do have only one vehicle and parents do have to go to work.   more ›
