Shot Fired in the Air at St. Clair Shores Carnival

Hundreds fled the scene following the incident at the St. Joan of Arc Festival late Saturday night, but no injuries were reported.

No injuries were reported Saturday night when a man fired a handgun into the air at the closing of the St. Joan of Arc Festival. St. Clair Shores Police Lt. Jason Allen said it's unclear what led to the incident or who was responsible. A report was filed at 11:07 p.m. to indicate that a single shot was fired in the parking lot across the street from the church at Overlake Street. Police were on-scene speaking with witnesses, who said that hundreds of people fled the area following the incident. Msgr. G. Michael Bugarin, St. Joan of Arc pastor, said there was an orderly shut down at the festival when the incident occurred off-site.  "I am very grateful for the St. Clair Shores' response," Bugarin said. Lakeview Students Recognize St. Clair Shores Police for Police Week

Members of Lakeview High School's Huskies With Heart presented a banner Monday to the St. Clair Shores Police Department as a way to thank department personnel during National Police Week.

Lakeview High School students presented a banner Monday to the St. Clair Shores Police Department to thank department personnel during National Police Week. Members of the Lakeview High School’s Junior Optimist Club “Huskies with Heart,” who received a $130 donation of returnable bottles and cans this past winter from the St. Clair Shores Police Officers union, made the presentation.

Wild Turkey Flies "A-Fowl" Into St. Clair Shores Home

A St. Clair Shores homeowner had an unusual breaking and entering this week when a wild turkey busted through a bedroom window and into a house on Joy street.

When a bird usually flies into a window of a home, it gets startled and flies away without much damage. But when a wild turkey flew into a window of home this week, it was a bit too large to bounce off the glass and fly away. A resident in the 23000 block of Joy called police about 2:30 p.m. Thursday after hearing a loud crash in her home. The homeowner went into the bedroom where she heard the noise and found a large, wild turkey that had crashed through the 3-foot by 4-foot bedroom window and was standing between the bed and wall.  According to a police report by the evidence technician who responded, the resident stated the turkey then jumped onto the window and flew away. Tattooed Man Attacks Car

Man attacks car Police are investigating a report that a muscular 5-foot 10-inch man in his early 20s, with a tattoo on his right forearm and reportedly was wearing blue athletic shorts and gray shirt that was cut off at the waste, attacked a car April 30 at the intersection of 8 Mile and Goethe. The victim was reportedly driving westbound on 8 Mile and stopped at Goethe. The suspect approached mini-van driven by the victim and told her "You're in my way." He then smashed out the driver's side window on the vehicle, and then fled on foot. St. Clair Shores Police K9 Officer Dies Following Surgical Complications

The St. Clair Shores Police Department reported K9 officer Chase died this past week.

St. Clair Shores Police K9 Officer Chase died this past week following surgical complications, the police department released. Chase, was a 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd, who joined the force in 2011. He took the place of Ivan, who retired early this in 2011. Chase was assigned to handler Officer Gerald Chomos, and lived with Chomos. "Our department cherishes our animals and considers them to be members of our police family," Deputy Chief of Police Glenn Bowlin wrote in an email announcing the passing of Chase.

Police Investigate Theft of Construction Equipment, Boat Instrument Panel

Construction equipment stolen A 31-year-old St. Clair Shores resident in the 31900 block of St. Margaret reported April 18 to police that construction equipment including grinders and a hammer drill were stolen from his 2000 Ford Ranger.   Tires stolen A St. Clair Shores resident in the 30600 block of Taylor called police April 18 to report that the tires and wheels were stolen off his Lincoln MKS and the car was placed on landscaping blocks. Vehicle stolen A resident contacted police April 18 to report a light blue Jeep Cherokee was stolen from a home in the 20000 block of Valera. Police Investigate Fake Federal Violation Scam

The following information is gathered from the St. Clair Shores Police Department. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Solicitors arrested St. Clair Shores Police were called April 11 after residents reported seeing solicitors in the 21700 block of St. Gertrude. The women stated they were soliciting for AT&T, but did not have a permit. A 30-year-old Troy woman was uncooperative, and after police were able to check her identification, found she had two warrants for her arrested and was taken into custody. A second woman, a 28-year-old from Detroit, was ticketed. Phone scam A 55-year-old resident contacted police April 10 after someone was able to obtain nearly $2,000 from him in a phone scam. The resident said he received a call from a person claiming to from the DEA and the resident was part of ongoing online pharmacy investigation. He was told that if he …

Police Investigate Armed Robbery

St. Clair Shores Police are investigating an armed robbery of a 33-year-old resident about 6 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot on 9 Mack Drive. According to police, the victim was was working on his vehicle when two men came up behind him - one armed with a dark colored semi-automatic handgun - and demanded money. A white male, approximately 18-years-old, 5-feet 9-inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a hoodie pulled over his head, and a black male, also 18-years-old, 6-feet 1-inch tall, and 190 pounds, wearing a black vinyl jacket, dark colored ballcap and white sunglasses, received an undetermined amount of money and fled on foot. Hit-and-Run Report Ends in Arrest for Stolen Car

St. Clair Shores police arrested a 44-year-old Romulus man April 3 on several charges after a report of a hit-and-run accident near Little Mack and 11 Mile Road. Officers were called about 10 p.m. for a hit and run accident in which the car drove away, according to a police report. Police said responding officers found the described getaway car in a driveway of the 28000 block of Little Mack with the driver's door ajar. The resident identified the driver as her ex-boyfriend. She told police he stopped and then ran from the car. She provided police a description, and he was found trying to hide behind an air conditioner. 2 Residential Burglaries Under Investigation in St. Clair Shores

Two burglaries have been reported in St. Clair Shores in which small valuables were stolen. Both happened on the same night and there are some similarities to the rash of burglaries plaguing Grosse Pointe Shores and Woods since January.

St. Clair Shores police are investigating two burglaries in which small valuables, such as jewelry, laptop computers or other small electronics were taken. At least one of the burglaries is similar in nature to a rash of burglaries happening Grosse Pointe Shores and Woods.  In the St. Clair Shores burglaries, two homes were broken into overnight from March 29 to 30, which was a Friday to a Saturday. In the first case, a resident in the 23800 block of Deziel Street reported returning home about 2 a.m. to find his kitchen window and screen open. He discovered that his house had been searched. He discovered several items missing including jewelry, a small cigar box as well as another small box containing social security cards, a birth …
