Lakeside Palette Club Honors Top Artists

The Lakeside Palette Club recognized the top artists Tuesday at their annual banquet and awards.

The Lakeside Palette Club held their banquet Tuesday at Chip Shotz at the St. Clair Shores Country Club.  The award-winning works of art, and many other submissions from members of the Palette Club, will be on display throughout May 31 at Chip Shotz. Wigs 4 Kids Hosts Holiday Party

Wigs 4 Kids held their annual holiday party this weekend at the St. Clair Shores Country Club.

Wigs 4 Kids ambassadors, staff and volunteers gathered this weekend at the St. Clair Shores Country Club for their annual holiday party. The party was hosted by Tom Giftos and National Coney Island staff and included music by DJ George Munger and Elite Entertainment and Dancers Workshop performers. The event was topped off by a visit from Santa and his elves. The St. Clair Shores-based charity provides wigs and support services to children throughout Michigan who are experiencing hair loss due to illness and treatment.

How Are You Spending This Warm Fall Day? Golf? Raking Leaves?

The sun is shining and the temperatures are in the 70s. How are you enjoying this classic fall day? A number of golfer have hit the links at the St. Clair Shores Country Club, and officials are recommending reservations.

The warm weather has families in St. Clair Shores taking walks, homeowners raking leaves and golfers are hitting the links at the St. Clair Shores Country Club. Course officials recommend golfers call to reserve a tee time. Green fees have also been reduced, are currently at winter rates. Rates include $25 for 18 holes with a cart, or $16 for nine holes. Twilight rates are in effect at 3 p.m. with $16 for a cart and $12 to walk. The forecast by the National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies and a high near 74.

Golfers who want to play a round need to call (586) 294-2000 to schedule a tee time. The golf course restaurant Chip Shotz is open for lunch or dinner after playing 9 or 18 holes. SCS Country Club Seeing Extra Rounds This Winter

Nearly 700 rounds have been played at the St. Clair Shores Country Club this year.

The unusually mild and snow-free winter has allowed golfers a chance to extend their season at the St. Clair Shores Country Club. There have been 690 rounds of golf played since Jan. 1, according to Rob Spinazzola, golf course office manager. In addition to giving golfers a jump on the 2012 season, each round played this year has included a $1 capital improvement surcharge approved by city council earlier this year. The extra $1 fee is put in an escrow account, which will be maintained by the city's finance department and will be used for future improvements at the golf course, including golf cart and bridge repairs and replacement of trees. St. Clair Shores will be hub of political activity Saturday with a visit by Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum; the City Clerk's office will be issuing and accepting absentee ballots and City Council will be holding a study session.

Presidential politics and the local budget will be on the agenda today as Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum holds a rally in St. Clair Shores and City Council begins the planning process for 2012-2013 budget. Sunny skies and unseasonable temperatures have allowed golfers to hit the links in January at the St. Clair Shores Country Club. The course will be open Wednesday.

Golfers will have one more day of rare January time on the links at the St. Clair Shores Country Club Wednesday due to the unseasonable weather. The 18-hole course has been busy since Friday, said Rob Spinazzola, golf course office manager, and added golfers will be able to hit the links Wednesday. "You got to take advantage of the weather," said Larry Carpenter, of Harrison Township, as he walked onto the putting green at the Shores course. After teeing off on 10th tee, and sending the ball down the center of the fairway, Reginald Blackshear had a big smile and said the weather was "great." "I'm loving it," the Eastpointe resident said.

On the Agenda: Swearing In, Capital Improvement Request

John Caron will be sworn-in as a member of council and the golf course will request a $1 per round capital improvement fee during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

A new member of City Council will be seated Tuesday during council's first meeting of 2012. John Caron will be sworn-in as the city's newest member of council. Caron was selected by City Council in December to fill the remainder of Kip Walby's council term.
