Children and adults learned important safety techniques for hunters this weekend during the two-day Hunter Safety Program sponsored by the St. Clair Shores Police and Shorewood Kiwanis.
The St. Clair Shores Police Department and the Shorewood Kiwanis held a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Program this past weekend at City Hall. The Hunter Safety Program is mandatory for those born after Jan. 1, 1960, looking to purchase a Michigan hunting license. The program included both classroom and field training exercises that included safe hunting techniques, firearm handling and hunter ethics. The class was held Saturday and Sunday.

"Allegory of Hope" is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program in the Shores.
Between the St. Clair Shores Public Library and City Hall is a portrait of "Hope." A digital reproduction of Allegory of Hope has been installed between the two city buildings as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out program, which places art reproductions throughout Metro Detroit. Similar to other works placed in St. Clair Shores, the painting by Allesandro Turchi features an anchor, which has a nautical and inspirational theme. "Hope is personified as a woman holding an anchor," states a plaque displayed next to the artwork. "The artist uses symbolism that would have been clear to his Christian patrons: just as an anchor provides security for a ship, the virtue of Hope is crucial to the Christian concept of salvation."
