Incumbents are among those who filed Tuesday for three contested seats on City Council.
A mix of incumbents, a former council member and newcomers filed Tuesday for the three open seats on City Council. All three current members of city council filed to retain their seats. Other candidates who filed include former councilwoman Erin Stahl and past candidates in the 2011 City Council elections John Burtch and Jack Downey. Candidates who filed for the four-year term are: The candidates have until 4 p.m. Friday to withdraw for the Aug. 6 primary election. The top six candidates in the primary will be on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.

From a meeting of St. Clair Shores City Council, to the Shorian Taste Fest, there will be a number events this week in the city.

Dear Editor, Do the citizens of St. Clair Shores care? Or are they just so tired from surviving day to day and living paycheck to paycheck that they are unaware of what is happening in our community? Citizens, do you care that the Courthouse was torn down weeks before receiving the $2 million loan/bond? City staff and City Council made sure you voted on the $2.6 million so-called "Police and Fire" millage but you do NOT get to vote on a $2 million bond/loan? St. Clair Shores City Council honored South Lake freshman Owen Hall for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
South Lake freshman Owen Hall led the City Council Monday in the Pledge of Allegiance before receiving a proclamation for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Hall, who has been a South Lake student since elementary school, completed a landscaping project in the courtyard on the high school grounds for his Eagle Scout project. The project also came in under budget, and he donated the remainder of the money to the high school.

Mayor Kip Walby takes responsibility and apologizes for the city's response to the snow.
St. Clair Shores Mayor Kip Walby took responsibility Monday for the not calling a snow emergency following the Dec. 26 snowstorm which dropped about 7 inches of snow on the city. Following the snowfall, the department of public works crews cleared main streets but did not address most residential streets until Jan. 2. "I did not call a snow emergency. I should have called it, I made a mistake," Walby said during Monday's City Council meeting. "I do apologize for the inconvenience that it caused a lot of residents including myself." Walby stated there were a number of issues which went into his decision and stated that the next time he would declare a snow emergency.
