Schools closed due to inclement weather Monday morning include: A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 6 a.m. Monday after several inches of snow fell overnight, turning into freezing rain in areas. The transition to regular rain is expected to happen around sunrise, the National Weather Service says. According to the National Weather Service, travel can become difficult during a Winter Weather Advisory, particularly due to slippery roads and limited visibility. Students at Lakeview and Lake Shore saw increases over 2010 Michigan Merit Exam results, while South Lake saw numbers drop in every category.
Lakeview and Lake Shore 11th-graders performed better than the statewide average in social studies and were near their peers in reading, math and social studies according to results released by the Michigan Department of Education. Students at Lakeview saw increases in every category, including an increase in ACT scores. "Our staff has been working extremely hard to develop and implement consistent curriculum and ongoing assessments to be able to provide targeted instruction for our students," said Tracy VanPeeren, assistant superintendent of curriculum and technology. Lakeview preschoolers enjoy an end-of-the-year picnic and South Lake Board recognizes Teachers of the Year.
Salturelli Preschool celebrates year’s end at park In celebration of the end of the school year, Salturelli Preschool teachers, students and their families recently enjoyed a picnic at Veterans Memorial Park . Preschoolers played in the splash zone and had fun on the playground. Families brought a dish to pass and everyone had a celebratory lunch with preschool teachers Janet Brady and Michelle Gorajczyk. South Lake recognizes Teachers of the Year The South Lake Board of Education recently honored the district’s 2010-11 Teachers of the Year.
