St. Clair Shores firefighters joined WCSX, Roy O'Brien Ford and Wally's Frozen Custard Monday to raise funds for Brian Woehlke, a 29-year-old Dearborn resident, who died while fighting a strip mall fire.
Members of St. Clair Shores Fire Fighters Union Local 1744 took to the streets Monday evening to help raise funds for a fellow firefighter who died while battling a fire at a strip mall in Westland. Off-duty firefighters held their boots high in the intersection of 9 Mile and Mack to collect donations for the Brian Woehlke Fund, which was set up after the 29-year-old Wayne-Westland firefighter died from injuries sustained while fighting the fire on May 8. The fundraiser was organized by radio station WCSX-FM, which had four donation locations set up Monday around Metro Detroit including Roy O'Brien Ford in St. Clair Shores. Roy O'Brien Ford will be hosting a fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Monday for a Wayne-Westland firefighter who died while battling a fire at a strip mall in Westland on May 8. Brian Woehlke went missing about 9:30 a.m., according to Click on Detroit. His body was later found in the debris of the two businesses, Electric Stick and Marvaso's Italian Grill, at the strip mall on North Wayne Road. The 29-year-old from Dearborn had been a member of the Wayne-Westland Fire Department for only 10 months when he died. He was also a husband, and a father of a 13-month old daughter Ava. The SCOTS Board, Lac Ste. Clair Kiwanis, Roy O'Brien Ford and Habitat for Humanity are working together to have joined forces this Christmas season to honor and assist an Iraq war veteran and his family this holiday season.
The St. Clair Shores-community is coming together this holiday season to assist a 30-year-old U.S. Army veteran from St. Clair Shores who was injured while deployed in Iraq. The SCOTS Board, Lac Ste. Clair Kiwanis, Roy O'Brien Ford and Habitat for Humanity are working together to help Phillip Martin and his family. Martin, was completing his second tour of duty when he was injured in an IED attack. Groups throughout the community have joined together to make improvments to his home including a a new furnace and car, and are still working on obtaining new windows, siding and doors for his home. The groups are seeking 180 people to donate just $25 each toward the Hometown Hero campaign to complete the remaining improvements. Donations made …

The dealership will host a "Go Further with Ford: Ford Fusion" event from 5-8 p.m. tonight with a chance to win a 2013 Ford Fusion. For every test drive, Ford will make a $10 donation to the Goodfellows. South Lake Schools welcomed business, community and elected officials Tuesday for a breakfast at the high school.
The cafeteria at South Lake High School was filled Tuesday morning not with students but business, elected and city leaders for the district's first Community and City Leaders Breakfast. "We really wanted to reach out to members of our community," said South Lake Superintendent Pamela Balint, of the breakfast which is part of on-going effort to showcase the district to residents. "It is important for us to reconnect with the community and restore the bond." Nearly 70 people including Mayor Kip Walby, Mark O'Brien, chairman of Roy O'Brien Ford and Richard Swanquist, president of the Lac Ste Claire Kiwanis attended the breakfast catered by culinary students and a performance by the school choir.

Macomb Community College students once again competed to create the logo which will appear on letterhead, posters and t-shirts for the 2013 Harper Charity Cruise.
When the 2013 Harper Charity Cruise revs up next August, the work of one Macomb Community College will adorn t-shirts, posters and other items. The logo created by Linda Hopkins, a digital design and layout student from Royal Oak, was selected by a panel of judges from the 16 submitted students. Hopkins, a St. Clair Shores native, integrated a marquee and a cartoon-image of a classic car. "I pictured a car being the star of the show," said Hopkins, who created a car with a big smile on the grill and a top hat. This is the second year the Shorewood Kiwanis partnered with Macomb Community College to have students design the cruise logo by using the latest software and hardware available at the school. Roy O'Brien Ford will host a Ladies Night tonight with fashion, food and for every test drive of a Ford, a donation will be made to The Lake House. Organizers hope to raise $6,000 for The Lake House, which is a gathering place for those touched by cancer.

Customers at Roy O'Brien Ford in St. Clair Shores recently got a sneak peek of the redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion.
Ford Motor Co. recently brought a newly redesigned Ford Fusion to the showroom at Roy O'Brien Ford in St. Clair Shores for customers, and dealer personnel, to get an up close look at the sedan. Members of the sales team, along with a representative from Ford, discussed some of the new features of the 2013 Fusion including a new body style, improved fuel efficiency and MyFord Touch technology. The new Fusions may start arriving at the dealership this fall.
