Macomb County Outlines Plan for Blue Economy

Macomb County officials outlined a plan Friday that would focus on environmental stewardship, economic development and quality of life while looking to develop economic opportunities and environmental quality for Lake St. Clair and the Clinton River.

Macomb County officials unveiled a Blue Economy Strategic Development Plan Friday for Lake St. Clair and the Clinton River. The plan, drafted by a committee that included local, county and regional representatives, included a wide range of proposals from increased access to the waterfront to increased ecosystem restoration. "The plan is a means of providing a clear understanding of the many different aspects of the blue economy here in this county," said Hackel, citing the miles of streams, rivers and lakefront in the county as location for business development, recreation opportunities and environmental preservation. Ok.. you'll have to explain your plan a little better. I have questions as to why we pay for a person to take people on boat rides when they are supposed to be checking and ensuring the water quality? We have too many problems with beaches being closed because of ecoli or feces contamination to be taking joy rides promoting the recreational water activites we have here. Tour Lake St. Clair Signs Installed

Signs are being placed in St. Clair Shores, and throughout Macomb County, to raise awareness of Lake St. Clair and increase tourism along the waterfront.

Motorists traveling along Jefferson or exiting Interstate 94 at 9 Mile Road will notice new nautical-themed signs intended to raise awareness of Lake St. Clair and direct traffic to businesses in the communities along the waterfront. The Macomb County Department of Roads is in the process of installing 50 signs throughout the county which feature a map of Lake St. Clair, "Circle The Lake Tour" wording and the address for the Tour Lake St. Clair website. The sign program should be complete before spring.
