Selfridge Airmen Begin Mobilization to Serve Overseas

Airmen will fly missions in and around southwest Asia including Afghanistan.

Airmen from the 127th Air Refueling Group at Selfridge Air National Guard Base are being mobilized to serve in southwest Asia. The rolling mobilizations of Air National Guard personnel will include personnel and aircraft to conduct missions, including air-to-air refueling with KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, in and around Afghanistan. “The Airmen of our refueling group are among the best trained and most highly-motivated people in our military,” said Col. Michael Thomas, 127th Wing commander at Selfridge, a KC-135 pilot and former commander of the 127th ARG in a release. “I have no doubt that they will continue to make all of us proud as they represent the very best of our home state of Michigan.”  The National Guard personnel from Selfridge…

News Brief: Selfridge Personnel Try to Keep Cool

The recent heat wave caused many people to find ways to keep cool and hydrated while at work and play.

While working to keep the aircraft at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township flying, Airmen have to work in the elements. During the recent heatwave, these men and women from the Michigan National Guard were in direct sunlight in the heat as they maintained the aircraft. "When you are working outdoors, as our Airmen on the flight line are doing, it is critical that you take steps to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses," said Lt. Col. Bill Henderson, chief of safety for the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich.
