Lakeview Senior Designs 2013 SCS Memorial Day Parade Logo

A design by Olivia Brown, a Lakeview High School senior, was selected to be the logo for the 2013 Memorial Day Parade.

A design by Lakeview High School senior Olivia Brown was selected to be the logo for the 2013 Memorial Day Parade. Members of the Parade Committee opened the contest to students from Lakeview, Lake Shore and South Lake high schools, seeking entries for the annual parade logo contest with the theme "A Time to Honor." A panel of veterans selected the winning design. Brown will receive a proclamation at the Feb. 19 City Council Meeting. All entries will be on display in City Hall, and in Dockside Cafe in March. Editors note: The logos are now correclty identified.

Memorial Day Parade Organizers Plan Battle of Bands, Logo Contest

The parade doesn't step off for nearly six months, but organizers are planning a Battle of the Bands fundraiser tonight and a logo contest for local high school students.

The 2013 St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade Committee will host a Battle of the Bands fundraiser at 7 p.m. tonight at the VFW Bruce Post #1146. There is no entry fee for bands, and admission is $10 with proceeds benefiting the Parade Committee. Members of the Parade Committee have also contacted Lakeview, Lake Shore and South Lake high schools seeking entries for the annual parade logo contest. Students can participate by submitting their designs with the theme "A Time to Honor" by Nov. 30. A panel of veterans will select the winning design, which will be announced Dec. 20 and honored during the 2013 parade. In Photos and Music: Memorial Day Celebrations in St. Clair Shores

St. Clair Shores honored veterans and celebrated their service, and the community, during events Sunday throughout the city.

The community came together Sunday to honor veterans during a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park and the 60th Memorial Day Parade. Patch captured photos from the events and set them to music performed by the Kennedy Middle School band and choir.

Countdown to the Memorial Day Parade: Kiwanis Honoring Fallen Soldiers

The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade is approaching, and leading up to the big event, Patch will be a profiling a unique aspect of the parade.

The Lac Saint Claire Kiwanis, St. Clair Shores Senior Activities Center and local businesses have come together to honor two St. Clair Shores residents who died in Iraq during the 60th Memorial Day Parade. Volunteers have spent the past few days building a float that will honor and remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Army Staff Sgt. Donald L. Munn II and Army Spc. Stephen M. Okray while serving in Iraq. "This is real community effort on behalf of remembering these boys," said Bryan Mazey, past president of the Kiwanis. Countdown to the Memorial Day Parade: WWII Veterans to be Honored

The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade is approaching, and leading up to the big event, Patch will be a profiling a unique aspect of the parade.

Members of the Greatest Generation will be recognized during the Memorial Day Parade. Parade organizers have invited members of the Women's Marine Association, Tuskegee Airmen, and a survivors of the USS Indianapolis and Pearl Harbor. The 60th Annual Memorial Day Parade "Freedom's Not Free" will step off at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 27, on Harper,  with over 100 entries including military personnel, military vehicles, marching bands, civic and school groups, dignitaries and a special visit from the U S Navy Marching Band.

Memorial Day Parade Line Up Comes Together

The 60th annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day is less than one month away and organizers are releasing more details about this community tradition.

The Memorial Day Parade is an annual event that draws thousands to St. Clair Shores to honor those who served and celebrate the unofficial start of summer. As the day nears, organizers of the parade - which will be held on Harper this year -  are releasing additional details about the event. "Please join us in celebration and tribute to our military men and women - past, present and future," said Cheryl Furdos, advertising and marketing chair for the parade, in an email.
