Before hitting the roads this weekend, local motorists can plan their best routes through a Michigan Department of Transportation interactive map. Mi Drive allows users to explore closures and construction across the state, including the Macomb County area, through its website. It also reflects live traffic incidents like accidents on major freeways like I-696 and I-94 in southeastern Michigan.

March 1 is the last day for volunteers to register.
Macomb County Community Services Agency is seeking volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens on Easter. Routes are available in all communities in the county. Volunteers are asked to deliver a route of approximately 10 to 12 meals on March 31. Volunteers must register to deliver meals by March 1, according to the county. Unless Congress reaches a last-minute agreement on the sequester by Friday, the huge budget cuts slated to kick in have the potential to affect nearly 7,000 federal employees working in Macomb County. Barring any kind of deal, the Obama administration will have to impose $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts to military and domestic programs on Friday, according to The New York Times. Those cuts would be the start of $1 trillion in cuts over the next decade. Automatic federal spending cuts to everything from education to the military will occur March 1 if Congress does not reach an agreement.
Federal funding for the military, public schools and other programs in Macomb County and beyond could see major cuts should Congress fail to halt $85 billion in "sequestration" spending cuts scheduled to take hold March 1, according to a statement released Sunday by the White House. In Michigan, the cuts would mean approximately 10,000 civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed which would reduce gross pay by around $67.7 million, according to the White House. If sequestration is triggered on March 1, the furloughs for civilian employees would begin in late April, according to an article by Jim Garamone of the Armed Forces Press Service. As Detroit Tigers pitchers and catchers took the field in spring training for the first time Tuesday, the play-by-play announcer for the team was also getting ready for the season. Mario Impemba, a Macomb Township resident and play-by-play analyst on Fox Sports Detroit, was the keynote speaker Tuesday at the first Macomb Business Awards. Snow has started to fall again Monday morning around Macomb County.
A "clipper" — known in weather circles as a fast-moving low pressure system out of Canada — will bring at least an inch of snow to Macomb County on Monday.
