Who is a Teacher You Appreciate in St. Clair Shores?

Tuesday is Teacher Appreciation Day. Who is a teacher past or present in St. Clair Shores who has made a difference in your life, or your child's life?

Teachers are being honored across St. Clair Shores for their work in the classroom, assisting in after-school activities and contributing to the community. Patch wants to recognize teachers past and present who have made a difference in your life, and in the lives of your children. Reader Marsha Salome previously shared a story about a teacher, and school, that made a difference for her son, Peter. "My son is affected by autism and had a successful inclusion experience at Koepsell Education Center, one of the elementary schools in the South Lake district.  Autism is a neurologically based disorder that can affect behavior, socialization, and language as well as cause/contribute to sensory impairment.  Peter joined Koepsell in kindergarten…

Macomb County Board Honors St. Clair Shores Green Schools

An award ceremony took place Tuesday at Macomb Intermediate School District in Clinton Township.

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners honored local schools for green initiatives Tuesday during an awards ceremony at Macomb Intermediate School District. Several St. Clair Shores schools were among those recognized, including Jefferson Middle School, which tied for the honor of Top Overall School 2012-13. The school was one of 127 schools across the county that have achieved Official Michigan Green School status. “The Board is very proud to partner with the MISD on this successful hands-on program,” Board Chairman David Flynn said in prepared statement. “Green Schools not only teaches students how to be responsible stewards of the natural resources in their community, but it also has the potential to lower energy costs for the schools…

Lakeview Administrative Offices Move Into New Building

The renovation of the office area of the former Wheat School is complete, and Lakeview Public Schools administrative have moved into the facility.

Lakeview Public Schools administrators spent Thursday and Friday moving desks, chairs, files dating back to the late 1800s and phone and computer lines from Princeton Elementary School to their new offices in the former Wheat School. Lakeview Public Schools purchased the former Wheat School on Harper south of 11 Mile for new administrative offices, meeting rooms, student enrollment office and board offices. New high school classrooms will open next school year, and preschool classrooms will open for the 2014 school year. The new offices will be open Monday, and renovation of the former administrative complex in Princeton Elementary School will begin the same day.

Lakeview Selects New Boardmember

Lakeview's Board of Education recently selected James Kouri to fill a vacancy on the elected body.

Lakeview Public Schools Board of Education recently selected James Kouri to fill a vacancy on the elected body following the resignation Michael McCain. Kouri, a current high school parent who also has grandchildren in the district, was one of six applicants for the position. He will serve a partial term until December 31, 2014, until the next regular election process can occur.  Kouri took the oath of office at the regular Board of Education meeting on Feb. 19.

Lakeview, Lake Shore and South Lake MEAP Results To Be Released Today

Check back with St. Clair Shores Patch at 10 a.m. Monday for a look at how students fared on their Fall 2012 Michigan Education Assessment Program exams.

Michigan students' MEAP results will be released Monday morning for students in Lakeview, Lake Shore and South Lake districts and in all public schools across the state. The results were scheduled to be released at 10 a.m. The Michigan Education Assessment Program exam assesses students in grades 3 through 9: The annual test is designed to show students' proficiency in career- and college-ready materials. The MEAP is administered by the Department of Education, which is releasing the data on Monday. The MEAP as a standard of measuring student achievement is on its way out; beginning in the 2014-15 school year, students will be given an online exam to test their knowledge of core subjects. Winter Storm Closes Schools in St. Clair Shores

Area public and private schools including Lake Shore, Lakeview and South Lake are also closed.

Students in St. Clair Shores will have a three-day weekend after a night of snow. Schools closed due to inclement weather Friday morning include: Lakeshore YMCA Child Care Center will have a delayed start and will open at 8 a.m. Friday. Additionally, the pep rally at Lake Shore High School has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 14, which is the last day before mid-winter break. The Snowcoming dance will still take place on Saturday. Also, Saturday school is still scheduled for Saturday morning. The Lakeview Board of Education is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the body following the resignation of Michael McCain.

Winter Weather Closes Schools in St. Clair Shores

Students rejoice. After a night of snow and freezing rain, all three St. Clair Shores school districts are closed. Schools closed due to inclement weather Monday morning include: A Winter Weather Advisory expired at 6 a.m. Monday after several inches of snow fell overnight, turning into freezing rain in areas. The transition to regular rain is expected to happen around sunrise, the National Weather Service says. According to the National Weather Service, travel can become difficult during a Winter Weather Advisory, particularly due to slippery roads and limited visibility. On Monday, there's a 50 percent chance of rain before 8 a.m., followed by periods of drizzing. It could become foggy after 8 a.m. Otherwise, the skies will be cloudy …
