Students in St. Clair Shores will have a three-day weekend after a night of snow. Schools closed due to inclement weather Friday morning include: Lakeshore YMCA Child Care Center will have a delayed start and will open at 8 a.m. Friday. Additionally, the pep rally at Lake Shore High School has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 14, which is the last day before mid-winter break. The Snowcoming dance will still take place on Saturday. Also, Saturday school is still scheduled for Saturday morning. With the another winter storm forecast to hit St. Clair Shores Thursday into Friday, Patch checked with local districts and the city to check on preparations for the snowy weather.
St. Clair Shores remains under a winter weather advisory starting at 7 p.m. Thursday and running through noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The snow is expected to cause "travel difficulties" including slippery roads and limited visibilites. School planning According to officials South Lake Schools, when there is inclimate weather facilities directors and superintendents in Macomb County have an early morning conference call. During the call is when decisions are made to close school based on weather. Lake Shore officials added that "the safety and education of our nearly 3,500 students are our main priorities, as well as travel conditions for all our employees," they stated in an email. Students with the Rodgers Elementary Student Council were too young to donate, but they still held a blood drive Tuesday for the American Red Cross.
Students at Rodgers Elementary School may have been too young to donate blood, but that didn't stop members of the student council from holding a blood drive Tuesday for the American Red Cross. To make the event a success, students who invited an adult to donate blood were recognized as a "Pint Size Hero." According to results provided by Lake Shore Schools and the American Red Cross, the blood drive had a donation goal of 31. There were 39 people who were registered for the drive. Five people could not donate for minor medical reasons, but 29 people were able to donate one whole blood unit and there were two donations of two units of double red cells for a total of four products. A total of 33 units were donated during the drive.

Candidates filed Tuesday for Lake Shore and South Lake schools Board of Education elections in November. Candidates also filed Tuesday to run for positions on the Macomb Community College Board of Trustees.

Kennedy Middle School students will be shadowing Lake Shore administrators Thursday.
Students from Kennedy Middle School raised more than $3,300 for the Leukemia Foundation during a Pennies for Pasta fundraiser. The students who collected the most money during the fundraiser shadowed superintendent, principal, vice principal and teacher Thursday.

Students at Lakeview and Lake Shore saw increases over 2010 Michigan Merit Exam results, while South Lake saw numbers drop in every category.
Lakeview and Lake Shore 11th-graders performed better than the statewide average in social studies and were near their peers in reading, math and social studies according to results released by the Michigan Department of Education. Students at Lakeview saw increases in every category, including an increase in ACT scores. "Our staff has been working extremely hard to develop and implement consistent curriculum and ongoing assessments to be able to provide targeted instruction for our students," said Tracy VanPeeren, assistant superintendent of curriculum and technology.
