Tuesday is Teacher Appreciation Day. Who is a teacher past or present in St. Clair Shores who has made a difference in your life, or your child's life?
Teachers are being honored across St. Clair Shores for their work in the classroom, assisting in after-school activities and contributing to the community. Patch wants to recognize teachers past and present who have made a difference in your life, and in the lives of your children. An award ceremony took place Tuesday at Macomb Intermediate School District in Clinton Township.
The Macomb County Board of Commissioners honored local schools for green initiatives Tuesday during an awards ceremony at Macomb Intermediate School District. Several St. Clair Shores schools were among those recognized, including Jefferson Middle School, which tied for the honor of Top Overall School 2012-13. Students at Violet Elementary School in St. Clair Shores are among the tops in the state for raising funds for the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart.
Students at Violet Elementary School are jumping for joy for a number reasons. The students have been jumping rope for a good cause - the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Additionally, as of the end of February, Violet was the top school in Michigan. Students raised of $28,048.02 as of Feb. 28.

Michigan students' MEAP results will be released Monday morning for students in Lakeview, Lake Shore and South Lake districts and in all public schools across the state. The results were scheduled to be released at 10 a.m. The Michigan Education Assessment Program exam assesses students in grades 3 through 9: The annual test is designed to show students' proficiency in career- and college-ready materials. The MEAP is administered by the Department of Education, which is releasing the data on Monday. The MEAP as a standard of measuring student achievement is on its way out; beginning in the 2014-15 school year, students will be given an online exam to test their knowledge of core subjects. Lake Shore Superintendent Chris Loria shares information about building safety in the district, and who to contact if children need assistance or counseling, following the fatal shootings at a Newton elementary school.
Chris Loria, Superintendent of Lake Shore Public Schools, posted a letter on the district website which discussed the district's efforts to keep students safe in the wake of the tragic shooting at a Connecticut elementary school today. Rodgers Elementary School teacher Debra Wilson was the recipient of the office supply store's A Day Made Better program.
One Rodgers Elementary School teacher received a $1,000 surprise on Tuesday, thanks to a teacher advocacy program at Office Max. Debra Wilson teaches first grade at Rodgers Elementary in St. Clair Shores and was nominated for Office Max's A Day Made Better. Wilson was one of 1,000 teachers across the country who were chosen by Office Max out of thousands of nominees to be rewarded for their extraordinary efforts in the classroom. Winners received $1,000 in school supplies for their classrooms, including arts and crafts, notebooks, and even cameras.
