Confessed Burglar Waives Exam in Grosse Pointe Farms

The 21-year-old arrested in several of the recent daytime burglaries appeared in Grosse Pointe Farms court Wednesday stemming from his charges there. He is likely to be arraigned on charges in the City of Grosse Pointe Thursday.

The 21-year-old Eastpointe man charged in several of the recent daytime burglaries waived his preliminary exam Wednesday afternoon in Grosse Pointe Farms court. Rudy J. Vandenbroeck is charged with four counts of home invasion and larcency from a building. He appeared in Grosse Pointe Farms court Wednesday briefly to waive his preliminary exam--a hearing in which a judge decides whether the police have sufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution. After being arrested at his home in Eastpointe May 25, Vandenbroeck admitted to breaking into four homes in the Farms, one home in the City of Grosse Pointe and one home in St. Clair Shores. It is likely that this man became addicted so heavily and quickly that he could have built up to this level in a matter of weeks. The guy is only 21. It is generally after years of abuse that drug as addicts look like quintessential addicts. This is a sad, sad story & a testament to how dangerous a threat drugs are to our youth.   more ›

Police Blotter: Strong Arm Robbery

The following information was supplied by the St. Clair Shores Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

iPhone robbery A 16-year-old St. Clair Shores resident reported Jan. 27 that a teenage male, about 17-years-old, 5-feet, 10-inches tall, wearing a black windbreaker and pants approached him in the 28800 block of Rockwood. The 17-year-old is alleged to have asked the other teen for the time, and when the teen pulled out his iPhone, he "strong-armed" the teen and stole the phone. Outdoor equipment stolen A resident reported Jan. 29 that someone broke into his garage in the 21800 block of Colony and stole a lawn mower, ladder, leaf blower and edger. Home invasion A homeowner in the 20000 block of Chalon reported someone broke into her home on Jan. 29 and stole jewelry and loose change. Additionally, whoever broke into the house ate …

Police Blotter: Copper Theft, Home Invasion

Copper thefts St. Clair Shores police are investigating a pair of copper thefts reported on Jan. 25. Officers were called to a home in the 22300 block of Maxine and a home in the 20100 block of Parkside after receiving reports that someone had broken into the homes and stole copper pipes. Gas theft The owner of the Marathon on Harper called police on Jan. 25 after the driver of a white pickup pumped $118 worth of gas and fled without paying. Home invasion A 49-year-old resident reported Jan. 26 that someone had entered their home in the 23000 block of Pleasant and may have stolen checks. The suspect is believed to have been scared away by dogs barking.  Attempted robbery A 25-year-old Harrison Township man is being held in the Macomb …

Home Invasion Suspects Arrested

Police continue searching for the third suspect in an alleged daytime robbery.

St. Clair Shores police are searching for a third individual who is alleged to have been involved in the robbery of a home Friday in the 21000 block of Maxine. The three men are alleged to have driven to the house and while Anthony Hawkins, 18, of St. Clair Shores, kept one of the residents of the home busy, a second person allegedly stole four guitars, a laptop and an iPod. A third man, Anthony Hervey, 18, of Eastpointe, waited in the getaway vehicle for the two men, according to St. Clair Shores Police Detective Margaret Eidt. The men are alleged to have pawned two of the guitars. A witness was able to help provide information to police that allowed the police to locate and arrest Hawkins and Hervey. Man Charged with Attempted Murder, Home Invasion in Macomb Stabbing

A 27-year-old man was arraigned in 41-A District Court Thursday in connection with a Macomb Township home invasion and stabbing.

 A 27-year-old Fraser man was arraigned Thursday on charges of attempted murder and home invasion. Joseph Reiner was arraigned by video in 41-A District Court by Judge Douglas Shepherd in connection with the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb Township woman inside her home during a break-in. The court entered a not-guilty plea on Reiner's behalf after he stood mute. He will be appointed a public defender for his preliminary examination on April 14. If convicted of attempted murder, Reiner could face up to life in prison. Shepherd set a $1 million cash bond. Reiner is also a suspect in two home invasions in Grosse Pointe Farms, which took place Feb. 24 and 25 and involved the theft of a 1999 Acura, which Reiner was driving at the time of his …
