St. Clair Shores Patch is the perfect place to post special and regularly scheduled church services, so people can check one more thing off their to-do list this holiday season. Adding a church service on Patch is easy to do. Just click on the Events tab at the top of the page, and then click on Add an Event. Simple! Be sure to include as much information as possible -- especially if a particular service is for adults only. There's nothing more embarrassing than being the only person in church with a crying baby. 5 Things to Know About Advent, Which Starts Sunday, Dec. 2

Here are five things you probably never knew about the Advent season, which starts Dec. 2 and runs through Christmas.

The Christmas season officially starts in many churches in St. Clair Shores this weekend with the beginning of Advent. Here are a few things to know about the season. 1. Advent has a different start date each year In 2012, Advent starts Sunday, Dec. 2. Despite the fact that most people associate the beginning of the Advent season with Dec. 1, the official dates of the season actually change each year. An anticipatory recognition of the “second coming of Christ,” in the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, Moravian, Presbyterian and Methodist traditions; Advent is the period of time preceding Christmas, beginning on whatever Sunday is nearest to Nov. 30. Because start dates vary, so does the length of each Advent season. This year, Advent …

How Will You Give This Christmas?

Leave a comment below to let us know what charity you plan to help this holiday season.

Christmas is the season of giving, and Patch wants to know what charity or group you are giving to this year. The American Red Cross released a poll in November in which most Americans said that they will continue to donate to charity this holiday season. In fact, most people said that their giving to political causes and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts will not reduce their year-end gifts to charity. The Red Cross poll also said that friends play a large role in charitable giving. Half of all donors (51 percent) said they would donate if a friend talked to them personally about a charity. So now Patch is asking you: What charities do you plan to help this Christmas? Will you donate to the Salvation Army or Toys for Tots? Will you volunteer…

Silver and Gold (and Diamonds): A Fine Jewelry Shopping Guide

What's sparkling on holiday wish lists this year, and where to buy that bling.

The holidays are a time of sparkle, often quite literally. While Eartha Kitt sang about wanting something from Tiffany under her holiday tree, we may not have them in the neighborhood, but we do have plenty of fine jewelry shops to visit for that perfect present - be it for a Christmas engagement or simply just because. "Christmas is the biggest engagement season," says Michael Agnello of Michael Agnello Jewelers, adding, "I hope the pattern sticks." His shop has been around for 37 years, so he should know. Plus, they opened their diamond engagement showroom a year ago, to better accommodate customers during their ring-buying experience. Quality remains king when it comes down to buying an engagement ring, Agnello adds. Platinum, 14-karat …
