Great Lakes Surf Shop of St. Clair Shores hosts yoga classes on paddleboards on the water at Burke Park in New Baltimore and Stony Creek in Shelby Township this month.
Yoga has long been associated with serenity and finding your center. And, thanks to a new series of classes hosted by St. Clair Shores-based Great Lakes Surf Shop, yogis can find tranquility on local waters. Yoga on the Lake—using the stand-up paddleboards becoming popular with water sports enthusiasts— is offered at Stony Creek in Shelby Township and on Lake St. Clair at Burke Park in New Baltimore. It takes the exercise away from yoga mats and onto paddleboards, where balancing is more of a challenge. Summer is here and St. Clair Shores is coming to life with a number of outdoor activities in parks, neighborhoods and the Lake St. Clair coastline. To celebrate our love recreation, Patch is trying some of these sports.
One of the benefits of living in St. Clair Shores is the wide variety activities for outdoor enthusiasts. From extreme to low impact sports, there is a sport for every season and skill level. Patch Plays is a new feature that will celebrate and highlight these acitivities. This week, we try stand up paddleboarding. Brian Lefeve, owner of Great Lakes Surf Shop, brought the sport to St Clair Shores and Lake St. Clair. He is offering lessons and rentals of the boards from his shop at Nine Mile and Mack.
