School children, philanthropic organizations, St. Clair Shores firefighters and Scouts are among the many volunteers who will join the Goodfellows Saturday to make sure there is "No Family Without a Christmas."
An army of self-described Santa's elves from the Goodfellows will hit the streets of St. Clair Shores Saturday to sell special edition newspapers to ensure there is "No Family Without a Christmas" in the city. "It's our only fundraiser," said said Mike Koch, president of the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows, who adds that every dollar raised is used by the 86-year-old charity. Joining the Goodfellows Saturday morning to meet at the central fire station for the sale, before heading out to intersections in the city, will be members of local groups including the Optimists and Kiwanis, along with Scouts and other volunteers. Quite a few Goodfellows and "goodgals" will take to the streets of St. Clair Shores Saturday to make sure there is "No family without a Christmas" this year. From before sunrise, to after sunset, a team of volunteers will be selling newspapers to raise money for clothes, toys and food for families in need this holiday season. "We have no paid staff," said Mike Koch, president of the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows. "Every dollar we collect goes back to the local community." Goodfellows, and volunteers from across the city, will sell newspapers from 6 am. to 6 p.m. Saturday throughout the city. Roy O'Brien Ford will be hosting a test drive and philanthropic event tonight. The dealership will host a "Go Further with Ford: Ford Fusion" event from 5-8 p.m. tonight with a chance to win a 2013 Ford Fusion. Scouts from across the city have helped the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows sell newspapers, collect and sort food, then assemble and deliver gift baskets to families in need throughout the city.
A dedicated group of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from across the city have volunteered to make sure there is "no kiddie without a Christmas" in St. Clair Shores. The Scouts, along with their families and friends, joined the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows Thursday to sort donated food and then assemble gift baskets Friday. Christmas eve morning, the Scouts joined the Goodfellows to deliver 135 baskets to families throughout the city. "We truly have a good group of kids and citizens in the community," said Mike Koch, president of the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows. This year we Goodfellows are adding another fundraiser. We have donation logo style cards in most every food and spirits establishment in St. Clair Shores. It's simple to donate a dollar amount then your name is posted inside the establishment along with other donors. I will be updating the list of participating establishments.
