It is a well-known fact that though adorable, pets are expensive. To help Macomb County pet owners better care for their four-legged friends, the Macomb County Animal Shelter and nonprofit All About Animals Rescue have partnered to offer a low-cost vaccine clinic this weekend. “We want to make sure that the shelter is a positive resource for the community,” said Jeff Randazzo, animal care and control manager of the Macomb County Animal Shelter, in a statement. Three new acts have been announced for Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights. Tickets can be purchased at www.freedomhill.net or by phone at 888-929-7849. Late last year it was was announced the 7,200-seat facility would be reopening. The first act signed to play Freedom Hill Amphitheatre was Grammy-winning band Lady Antebellum.

Macomb County residents can dispose of old paper documents and correspondence at the "Shred-it-Day" event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office will hold a free “Shred-it-Day” event on March 5 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. Macomb County residents can discard up to four boxes full of paper documents and correspondence, including tax returns, credit card statements and bills. Residents are asked to enter Freedom Hill from the eastbound Metro Parkway entrance to allow for efficient traffic flow. Metal, plastic or other objects will not be accepted, and no paper documents will be accepted from businesses. The “Shred-it-Day” event is part of National Consumer Protection Week from March 3-9, in which groups help consumers protect their privacy and avoid identity theft.

Macomb County will host a drug take-back and shredding event Oct. 18 at Freedom Hill to help local seniors, age 60 and older, properly dispose of medications and keep their personal information safe.
Macomb County senior citizens can dispose of unwanted medications and sensitive personal information for free Thursday at a document-shredding and medication-collection event at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Freedom Hill County Park, 115000 Metropolitan Pkwy, east of Schoenherr. The event, which in the past has been held at the Verkuilen Building in Clinton Township, was moved this year to accomodate the increased traffic. Once again the Macomb County Senior Citizen Services Department is partnering with Absolute Shreds, a mobile shredding company, to shred any unwanted personal documents for area seniors. Macomb County and Hillside Productions, the amphitheater's operator, have come to an agreement to reopen the venue.
The Hill is alive with the sound of music—Freedom Hill, that is. Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights will reopen this summer, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel announced in a press release Friday. “Music to my ears: we've got a plan in place that has Freedom Hill set to reopen this summer!,” Hackel said on his Twitter account, @MarkHackel. The amphitheater had been closed since 2009 and the surrounding county park had been closed since 2010 because of budget cuts. But Freedom Hill will reopen this summer thanks in part to a resolution involving Macomb County and Hillside Productions, the operators of the amphitheater.
