Flu season usually peaks in January and with at least two new strains of influenza being passed around this year, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention are recommending everyone get a flu shot as soon as possible. Developed for the 2012-13 flu season, the vaccine will protect against three different flu viruses and is recommended for everyone six months of age and older. A person’s immune protection from vaccination declines over time and annual vaccination is needed for optimal protection, according to the Macomb County Health Department. The Macomb County Health Department is now offering the seasonal flu vaccine for three different viruses: H3N2 virus, influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus. The vaccines are available at locations in St. Clair Shores, Mount Clemens and Warren. Although last year's flu shot protected against the same viruses, a person's immune protection declines over time, according to a release from the Macomb County Health Department. According to http://www.healthcare.gov/news/factsheets/2010/07/preventive-services-list.html, the flu shot must be covered without charge or copayment by all health plans issued after September 2010.
