Southeast Michigan Fishing Report

The Michigan DNR reports good perch and rock bass fishing in Lake St. Clair.

Planning to go fishing in Lake St. Clair, and throughout southeast Michigan, this weekend? The Michigan DNR recently released their weekly fishing report for the region: Lake St. Clair: Had good perch reports from Anchor Bay and south of Metro Beach. Limits of rock bass were caught at night near Blossom Health in St. Clair Shores. Detroit River: Walleye fishing has been very good when the weather cooperates. Anglers are bouncing jigs during the day and hand-lining at night. St. Clair River: Boat and shore anglers have caught a few walleye, coho, brown trout and steelhead along the wall. Walleye were caught near Marine City. Lake Erie: Anglers are targeting walleye in 15 to 17 feet of water around Turtle Island and the Dumping Grounds. …

Beach Update, Boating Forecast and Capt. Dan's Fishing Report

Patch shares some tips for events on—and in—Lake St. Clair this weekend.

Beach closures The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. These bacteria live in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals. If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea.  The following beaches are closed because of high E. coli levels: While the beaches are closed, the rest of the park is open. Boating forecast The National Weather Service is forecasting southeast winds at 10 to 15 knots Friday night, diminishing to 5 to 10 knots and partly cloudy. Perch Still Biting, Bringing Lots of Action in Lake St. Clair

Capt. Dan Chimelak of Lakeside Fishing Shop on Jefferson says there's still plenty of good fish to be caught out on the lake right now, and perch are especially hot.

Perch action is still big for local anglers on Lake St. Clair. "It's still a good time of year to get out there and get some fish," according to local expert Dan Chimelak of Lakeside Fishing Shop on Jefferson. Capt. Dan, as he's known, said there has been "quite a bit of action with perch," straight out from the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club area, near the shipping channel. He had reports of anglers having success in 15-16 feet of water. There are also reports of perch in and around the marinas. Capt. Dan cautions that most marinas don't allow fishing from the docks, so he suggests launching and boating in around the marinas.
