Cops for Kids Shop for Families in Need in St. Clair Shores

Volunteers joined members of the St. Clair Shores Police Department Friday to shop for toys and other items for the annual Cops for Kids for care package distribution.

A year of hard work culminates this weekend for members of St. Clair Shores Cops for Kids. After raising funds from events such as the Red Wings-Lakeview alumni hockeya dinner cruise on Ovation and Chili Wars, along with donations from individuals and businesses - including Dan Hauser of Superior Car Wash who donated $1,804 from car washes this past month -  officers were joined by volunteers Friday at Kmart to shop for toys and other items for families in need in St. Clair Shores. The purchases were then taken to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, where volunteers were to gather, wrap and distribute the care packages Saturday for 74 families and 205 children in need in St. Clair Shores. Chili Wars Champions Announced

Businesses, residents and organizations brought their best chili recipes Thursday to Lakeland Banquet Centre to compete in Chili Wars V.

Dozens of professional and amateur chili chefs brought gallons of their best creations Friday to the Lakeland Banquet Centre in St. Clair Shores for Chili Wars V. The event is a fundraiser for Cops for Kids, the St. Clair Shores-based charity which provides toys and other items to needed families in St. Clair Shores at Christmas. Event co-organizer Joe Evangelista released the winners in the annual event:

Share Your Photos From Record-Breaking Cops for Kids Hockey Game

Share your photos from the record-breaking charity game between Lakeview High School alumni and Detroit Red Wings Alumni at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena.

The charity hockey game between Lakeview High School alumni and the Detroit Red Wings Alumni raised $20,894 and netted $14,800 for the St. Clair Shores Police Department's Cops for Kids Program. According to a post on the St. Clair Shores Facebook page, it was the largest one-day fundraiser in the history of the Cops for Kids Program. Did you attend the game? Chili Wars V to Raise Funds for Cops for Kids

Chili Wars V, a family-friendly chili cook-off event called by organizers as “the rootenest, tootenest chili cook-off this side of the Pecos!” will be held tonight at Lakeland Banquet and Event Centre. Proceeds benefit Cops for Kids.

Lakeview Alumni Play Against Red Wings Alumni for Cops for Kids

Lakeview Huskies alumni put on their school colors, laced up their skates and took the ice Saturday for a charity game against Detroit Red Wing alumni at Civic Arena.

Alumni of the Lakeview High School hockey team and former NHL players met on the ice at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena Saturday to raise money for the charity Cops for Kids. The police charity provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children. The Red Wings Alumni won the amiable match-up 10-9, developing an early lead that Lakeview had nearly overturned by the end of the game. Red Wings announcer Ken Kal provided the play-by-play for the match-up. In addition, the Hockey Hall of Fame brought the Stanley Cup for an appearance; fans could get their picture taken with the cup for $10.

Tickets Still Available for the Cops for Kids Dinner Cruise

It may be early for some people, but members of St. Clair Shores Cops for Kids are already thinking about Christmas and are holding fundraisers for to provide gifts and other items for those in need in the city.

School may just be back in session, but the members of the Cops for Kids organization are thinking about the holidays. The all-volunteer program will be holding a number of fundraisers in the coming weeks to make sure children in need have presents Christmas morning. Cops for Kids, which is led by St. Clair Shores police officers, provides gifts and other items to children and families during the holidays. Upcoming fundraisers include: The large-scale Cops for Kids volunteer effort has grown since the organization's inception 37-years ago by St. Clair Shores police officers John St. Germane and Fred Marengo. The two officers responded to a police call at a home on Christmas and found the children did not have any presents. The officers …

Shores Businesses and Groups Support Cops for Kids

Community service groups and businesses across St. Clair Shores have spent the past year raising funds to help make Cops for Kids a success, and ensure families in the city have a Christmas dinner and presents under the tree this year.

Through the years families of the VFW Bruce Post Men’s Auxiliary have served the country, and now their relatives are continuing the tradition. During the past year the Men’s Auxiliary, whose relatives served in the military, have held a number of fundraisers for a variety of organizations including Cops for Kids. This year the organization donated $2,000 to Cops for Kids, which will used to purchase food and presents for families in St. Clair Shores. “One of the things we like about (Cops for Kids) is all the money raised stays here in St. Clair Shores,” said Allen Galdys, president of the Men’s Auxiliary. “This is one of our annual donations … it is a given.” The donation was one of many made by local groups, businesses and individuals …

Lakeview Student Club Dedicates Itself to Community Service

Huskies with Heart are the city’s first Junior Optimist Club.

A group of Lakeview High School students are gaining heartfelt lessons about the rewards of helping others. Previously called SoEmo, the group has renamed itself Huskies with Heart and has grown from approximately 16 students and two parents last year to 60 students and 10 parents this year. The main goal of Huskies with Heart is to build positive relationships with students, staff and the community, said Matt Barranca, the club’s staff adviser. The club embraces the values of optimism, promotes respect for self and others, and pursues opportunities for community service, Barranca said. “It seems that our society tends to look down upon the teenage demographic. Community Comes Together for Cops for Kids

Fundraising is underway for the annual Cops for Kids benefit for local families.

What happens when you mix the Ghoul, chili chefs and a luxury yacht cruise? A happy holiday season for those in need in St. Clair Shores. Fundraising events are being held across the city to raise money for Cops for Kids, the volunteer program led by the St. Clair Shores police which provides gifts and other items to children and families during the holidays. "Every fundraiser is important because money is tight and we need to raise the funds before December," said St. Clair Shores police officer Jeff Goode, president of Cops for Kids. The organization held a dinner cruise on the Ovation yacht in September, where 200 people spent a night on Lake St. Clair enjoying dinner and music by the Dave Huff Band.
