Think frostbite is something that only happens in the Arctic? With a 25-degrees-below-zero windchill expected for Michigan Tuesday, think again.
A wind chill advisory is in effect for southeast Michigan until 1 p.m. Tuesday—with temperatures heading down to -5 and the wind chil expected to hit 25 degrees below zero. The Henry Ford Health System—with one medical center in St. Clair Shores—offers some tips to stay safe during this blistering cold weather. Prevention The key to avoiding cold weather injuries is to dress appropriately. This includes layering clothing with a first layer that pulls moisture away from the skin, an outer layer that keeps the elements out and a middle layer that insulates. There are no St. Clair Shores closed due to the cold, but St. Joan of Arc Catholic School is closed due to a building a problem.
A wind chill advisory is in effect for St. Clair Shores and much of southeast Michigan, the National Weather Service announced Monday evening. The blistering cold winter weather has already caused one school in St. Clair Shores to cancel classes for Tuesday. According to WDIV-TV, Channel 4, multiple closings had been announced as of Tuesday morning, including St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in St. Clair Shores. When our children are ill we should not as mothers bear the weight of all the responsibilities alone. As moms we try to “make it better” and “do it all.” Asking for help is hard. Accepting help is even harder!
Well, we managed to make it most of this long winter with nothing more than a sniffle or two. That lucky streak lasted until about a week ago when my middle child came down with the flu and then croup followed right behind it. The croup has taken all of us out! Well, almost all, the family dog “Teddy” is holding his own quite nicely! I love most things about being a mom but taking care of sick children is among my least favorite. There is no worse feeling in the world when your son or daughter feels terrible and he or she looks at you with those sad, sick eyes. “Please mommy, make it go away,” they say. Your heart breaks for your children when they exclaim “I’m done!” As a mom we can not always make it go away. Although we would love to, …

I can't believe the schools are open. Minimal bus service in South Lake, Lakeshsore. None in Lakeview. I bet there will be high abscences in all three districts today. I know I wouldn't let my child walk or stand at a bus stop. Not everyone has a car to drive their kids to school. Some families do have only one vehicle and parents do have to go to work.   more ›
