Kiwanis and SCSFSC Provide a Day of Skating, Fun for Special Needs Students

Special needs students and adults enjoyed a private performance Thursday of the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club's Reflections on Ice show at Civic Arena.

The St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club presented a special, private performance Thursday of the Reflections on Ice Show for about 800 special needs children and adults from Metro Detroit at Civic Arena. The show was presented in conjunction with the Shorewood Kiwanis who provided snack bags, clowns and day out for attendees.  The general public will be able to see the show Friday - Sunday at Civic Arena. The show, which is an adaptation of "Mary Poppins," takes to the ice at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Prices are $7 in advance, $8 at the door, for children and seniors,  $9 in advance and $10 at the door for adults. Advance tickets are available at Civic Arena.

Silver Stick Hockey Teams Hit the Ice at Civic Arena

Teams from across the country are playing in the annual Silver Stick tournament at Civic Arena in St. Clair Shores.

Some of the top hockey teams from the United States and Canada will take to the rinks at Civic Arena for the Silver Stick International Finals. Over the course of the three-day tournament, 46 teams of 7- and 8-year-olds from as far away as California and Maryland will play 85 games in hopes of making it to the championship games Sunday. The tournament has been held in St. Clair Shores for 29 years, and is hosted by the St. Clair Shores Hockey Association. To follow the results, visit www.pointstreak.com. Final Day of Competition in the Silver Stick Tournament at Civic Arena-Photos

Today is the final day of competition in the regional Silver Stick tournament at Civic Arena in St. Clair Shores.

Teams will take to the ice at Civic Arena today for the final games of the regional Silver Stick tournament. Nearly 1,200 players, between 8 and 18 years old, from teams across the state have taken the ice in games held over the past two weekends. "In hockey, we consider this to be our Little League World Series," said Shawn Nicholson, vice-president of the St. Clair Shores Hockey Association which is the host organization for the tournament. Admission is free, and the last game scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. today.

Cops for Kids Alumni Hockey Game Featured on Detroit Red Wings Website

A record amount of funds were raised at the charity game between Lakeview High School alumni and Detroit Red Wings Alumni at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena. Highlights from the game are now featured on the hockey team's website.

The Detroit Red Wings posted a video on the team's website from the charity game between Lakeview High School alumni and Detroit Red Wings Alumni at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena. Ken Kal, a St. Clair Shores resident and Detroit Red Wings announcer, hosts the video. The charity hockey game between Lakeview High School alumni and the Detroit Red Wings Alumni raised $20,894 and netted $14,800 for the St. Clair Shores Police Department's Cops for Kids Program.

Lakeview Alumni Play Against Red Wings Alumni for Cops for Kids

Lakeview Huskies alumni put on their school colors, laced up their skates and took the ice Saturday for a charity game against Detroit Red Wing alumni at Civic Arena.

Alumni of the Lakeview High School hockey team and former NHL players met on the ice at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena Saturday to raise money for the charity Cops for Kids. The police charity provides Christmas presents for underprivileged children. The Red Wings Alumni won the amiable match-up 10-9, developing an early lead that Lakeview had nearly overturned by the end of the game. Red Wings announcer Ken Kal provided the play-by-play for the match-up. In addition, the Hockey Hall of Fame brought the Stanley Cup for an appearance; fans could get their picture taken with the cup for $10.

Video: St. Clair Shores Will Be Hockey Town Saturday for the Red Wings, Huskies Alumni Game

St. Clair Shores at one time was known as Hockey Town, and Saturday will regain that title when the Lakeview Huskies and Red Wings take the ice at Civic Arena. The Stanley Cup and Red Wings announcer Ken Kal will also be present.

Alumni hockey players from Lakeview High School and the Detroit Red Wings will take the ice at Civic Arena Saturday for a charity game for Cops for Kids. In addition to the game, which will raise funds for the non-profit organization that provides gifts and other items to families in need at Christmas, organizers have planned a number of special events in connected to the game: The puck drops for the game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Civic Arena. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for kids 12 years old and under. Youth Fitness Center Opens at Civic Arena on Hockey Opening Day

A grand opening celebration was held Sunday for the new Youth Fitness Center in Civic Arena. The event was held on opening day for the St. Clair Shores Hockey Association.

A public-private partnership between St. Clair Shores, the St. Clair Shores Hockey Association and the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club led to the construction, and opening Sunday, of a new fitness center at Civic Arena. The project, funded with more than $114,000 raised by the SCSHA and SCSFSC along with $50,000 in federal Housing and Urban Development money, converted two all-purpose rooms at the complex into a state-of-the-art fitness facility. "This is our building as residents of St. Clair shores. We need this building to be an asset," said Shawn Nicholson, hockey association board member. SCS Figure Skaters Perform a Special Charity Show

The Shorewood Kiwanis and the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club presented a special performance of the Reflections on Ice show for nearly 700 special needs children and adults at Civic Arena.

Nearly 700 special needs adults and children from across Metro Detroit were treated Thursday to a special performance of the St. Clair Shores Figure Skating Club's Reflections on Ice show at Civic Arena. The show, which features adaptations of Disney fairy tales and princess stories, was provided free of charge by the Shorewood Kiwanis. In addition to seeing the show, attendees enjoyed treats from snack bag, interacting with clowns and a day out. Public performances of the show will be held: Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children.

Photo of the Day: Shorewood Kiwanis Prepare Snack Packs

Members of the Shorewood Kiwanis, business community and students packed snack bags Wednesday at the St. Clair Shores Senior Activity Center.

Boxes upon boxes of Swiss cake rolls, juice boxes and chips were separated Wednesday and placed into snack bags by a team of hard working adults volunteering for some important children. The team of volunteers were led by the Shorewood Kiwanis, students and members of the local business community who packed the bags for today's benefit Refelections on Ice show at Civic Arena for nearly 700 special needs children.
