Members of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union can start applying for classroom grants on Sept. 1.
With school districts operating on reduced budgets this year, many teachers will rely on grants to enhance their students’ education. One of these grant opportunities is the Classroom Cash Grant through the Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union. The credit union plans to award more than $25,000 in grants to schools in Macomb and Oakland counties this year. “Some of the most memorable teaching experiences are not found in the regular curriculum,” said Peter Gates, CEO and president of MSGCU, in a release. “That’s why we encourage teachers to find unique, innovative classroom projects that inspire their students to embrace education. As you read this, U.S. and European stock markets are unstable. Why? Washington and our European partners have an excess of debt and a shortage of leadership. The recent market drops are merely a reflection of their actions–or lack thereof–and they have a serious effect on all of us. For the past seven months, we’ve worked in Lansing to approve a responsible, yet very difficult balanced budget with one goal in mind: to place Michigan at the top of places to live, work and raise a family. Today's birthday parties seem to follow a "trend" of action, interaction, and require lots of preparation. What happened to the good old cake and ice cream birthday parties?
The sun is shining and I am knee-deep in birthday planning. Yes, my little boy is almost one. It has been a great year and we are so blessed to have him in our life. Like so many other parents we are left to decide what are we going to do? How will we celebrate his or her big day? As the thought of what to do has entered my mind several times the past months, I have also been visited by another question, “what happened to good old cake and ice cream parties?” Today’s parties seem to be following a trend full of action, interaction, creativity, and hands-on opportunities. I am a planner at heart and even I find this task of kid party planning exhausting at times. Gone are the times of drop your kid off and run. Birthday parties today …
