Bob Bashara will be arriagned on several charges next week in the strangulation death of his wife Jane Bashara following an investigation spanning multiple states and nearly 300 witnesses. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced several charges early Wednesday against Bashara, who owns property in St. Clair Shores. She was surrounded by more than a dozen people from various agencies who helped in the investigation and without, Worthy said, charges never would have resulted. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy will make an announcement Wednesday morning in the Jane Bashara case, according to a release sent from her office. Maria Miller said Worthy’s press conference will take place at 11 a.m. April 17 in downtown Detroit. Joe Gentz was sentenced to 17 to 28 years in prison in February after he pleaded guilty to to second-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara, a Grosse Pointe Park resident. Bob Bashara, Jane’s husband, was named a person of interest in his wife’s death, but he has not yet been charged in the case. Bob Bashara is serving 80 to 240 months in prison after pleading guilty to a charge that he hired a hitman to kill Gentz.

In approximately 15 minutes, Joe Gentz apologized for killing Jane Bashara, her sister asked that he be held accountable and Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans sentenced him to 17 to 28 years in prison Tuesday. The sentencing for the man who admitted to strangling Jane Bashara to death has been re-scheduled for a second time--this time moving the sentencing up to Feb. 19 from a March date.
Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans changed the sentencing hearing for Joe Gentz from early March to Feb. 19, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Gentz, who pled guilty to second degree murder in the January 2012 strangulation death of Jane E. Bashara, will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Feb. 19. He was originally scheduled to go before Evans Jan. 29 then that was rescheduled to March 1. Wayne County Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller noted the change in the sentencing date in an email case update Thursday morning. Gentz remains in custody. Joey is my cousin and he has had a real tough life with parents that didn't show him the love and support he should have gotten. He would have NEVER done such a thing on his own. I believe what he says that Bob forced him to commit the murder with promise of money, car and a bullet in the head if he didn't do it. When is he going on trial for the murder of his wife or having her killed? more ›
