Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced several charges early Wednesday against Bob Bashara in the strangulation death of his wife, Jane Bashara, whose body was found in the back of an SUV in Detroit.
Bob Bashara will be arriagned on several charges next week in the strangulation death of his wife Jane Bashara following an investigation spanning multiple states and nearly 300 witnesses. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced several charges early Wednesday against Bashara, who owns property in St. Clair Shores. She was surrounded by more than a dozen people from various agencies who helped in the investigation and without, Worthy said, charges never would have resulted. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy will make an announcement Wednesday morning in the Jane Bashara case, according to a release sent from her office. Maria Miller said Worthy’s press conference will take place at 11 a.m. April 17 in downtown Detroit. Joe Gentz was sentenced to 17 to 28 years in prison in February after he pleaded guilty to to second-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara, a Grosse Pointe Park resident. Bob Bashara, Jane’s husband, was named a person of interest in his wife’s death, but he has not yet been charged in the case. Bob Bashara is serving 80 to 240 months in prison after pleading guilty to a charge that he hired a hitman to kill Gentz.

The former handyman who admitted in December to killing Grosse Pointe Park resident Jane Bashara in January 2012 will serve 17 to 28 years in prison after being sentenced Tuesday morning in Wayne Circuit Court.
In approximately 15 minutes, Joe Gentz apologized for killing Jane Bashara, her sister asked that he be held accountable and Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans sentenced him to 17 to 28 years in prison Tuesday. Gentz pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder in the strangulation death of Jane Bashara. Originally he was charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, carrying potential life in prison sentences. Evans highlighted the lack of thought by Gentz about whether it was wrong to kill Bashara. She followed plea agreement guidelines established by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and his defense attorney, Susan Reed. He will serve no less than 17 years and no more than 28 years. The sentencing for the man who admitted to strangling Jane Bashara to death has been re-scheduled for a second time--this time moving the sentencing up to Feb. 19 from a March date.
Wayne Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans changed the sentencing hearing for Joe Gentz from early March to Feb. 19, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Gentz, who pled guilty to second degree murder in the January 2012 strangulation death of Jane E. Bashara, will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Feb. 19. He was originally scheduled to go before Evans Jan. 29 then that was rescheduled to March 1. Wayne County Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller noted the change in the sentencing date in an email case update Thursday morning. Gentz remains in custody. Joe Gentz has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara of Grosse Pointe Park, according to WXYZ, the Detroit Free Press and other media reports. Gentz, a St. Clair Shores handyman, said Bob Bashara—the husband of Jane Bashara—promised Gentz money and threatened him. The guilty plea means Gentz could serve between 17-28 years in prison. Grosse Pointe Park resident Bob Bashara was sentenced this morning on a charge that he hired a hitman to kill Joe Gentz, the one-time St. Clair Shores handyman charged with killing Bashara's wife last January. Bob Bashara's sentencing hearing has been postponed from Tuesday, Nov. 20 to Dec. 10 at 8:30 a.m. On Oct. 11, Bashara, a Grosse Pointe Park resident, appeared before Judge Bruce U. Morrow in Wayne County Circuit Court on a charge that he hired a hitman to kill Joe Gentz. Bashara pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder. The trial of Joe Gentz, the handyman charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the strangulation death of Grosse Pointe Park resident Jane Bashara, is set for January 7, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. The trial is scheduled nearly a year after Jane Bashara was found strangled in her SUV in Detroit last January. Gentz was arraigned on the charges of murder and conspiracy in Wayne County Third Circuit Court on Tuesday morning. According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, Gentz entered a not guilty plea. Accused of sharing evidence with Bashara's family and for issuing unauthorized subpoenas, attorney David Griem will be sentenced for civil contempt on Nov. 26.
Bob Bashara's former attorney, David Griem, was in court Friday on charges of criminal contempt of court that stemmed from accusations that Griem had shared privileged information with Bashara's family and had issued unauthorized subpoenas regarding Joe Gentz. During the hearing before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King, Griem admitted responsibility for both petitions for contempt and apologized, reported Maria Miller, Wayne County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson. Joey is my cousin and he has had a real tough life with parents that didn't show him the love and support he should have gotten. He would have NEVER done such a thing on his own. I believe what he says that Bob forced him to commit the murder with promise of money, car and a bullet in the head if he didn't do it.
