Two Macomb County beaches remain closed to swimming due to high E. coli levels.
The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. This bacteria lives in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals. If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea. The following beaches are closed because of high E. coli levels: While the beaches are closed, the remainder of the park facilities remain open. Hundreds gather in Blossom Heath Park for the St. Clair Shores Relay for Life.
Cancer survivors, their families and supporters will be walking and raising funds until noon Saturday in Blossom Heath Park. The public is invited to join the walk and contribute to the fight against cancer.

The 16th Annual Nautical Coast Clean Up draws crowds to clean debris and beautify Lake St. Clair beaches and shoreline in St. Clair Shores.
Volunteers in St. Clair Shores grabbed their rakes, pitchforks and garbage bags and headed out Sunday for the 16th Annual Nautical Coast Clean Up. Linda Kettler was one of the volunteers at Veterans Memorial Park on Jefferson in St. Clair Shores. "I came out to help because I take pride in the city and want to teach the kids about giving back to the community," said Kettler. Despite the wet beach and park, people dove right into the work and began cleaning shortly after 8:30 a.m. Kendal Vanhllrne, 14, of St. Clair Shores said she likes volunteering becasue it makes everything pretty. Victoria Prohaska, 11, of St. Clair Shores was very passionate about volunteering to clean up in her city. "People throw things away like it doesn't matter …
