Families filled Blossom Heath Park in St. Clair Shores Sunday for sweets, cider, carnival rides and fire safety information during the annual Halloween Fun Fest.

Families dressed dressed in a variety of costumes Sunday and descended on Blossom Heath Park for the annual St. Clair Shores Activities Committee Halloween Fun Fest. Local organizations and businesses handed out candy and other prizes to attendees, cider and donuts were handed out by Lakeview High School Huskies With Heart organization and St. Clair Shores firefighters were on-hand with a smoke house to teach proper fire safety. Halloween Fun Fest Moves to Blossom Heath Park

Improvements at Veterans Memorial Park led the St. Clair Shores Activities Committee to move the annual event to Blossom Heath Park.

The annual Halloween Fun Fest will have a new location this year due to  improvements to Veterans Memorial Park. Seed was recently laid in the park following the construction of the Maloof Family Pavilion, and some areas are inaccessible, according to city officials. To accommodate the nearly 3,000 people who attend the event annually, the St. Clair Shores Activities Committee and Parks & Recreation decided to move the event this year to Blossom Heath Park. "We were looking for a new location because of the construction at Veterans," said Maureen Antushevich, chairwoman of the Activities Committee. I'm glad to hear this event still will take place. I'ts great and the change was necessary. Besides, it will give the people of this community a real glance at our other (forgotten) Lakefront park that this city has to offer to its residents. In Photos: Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon Prepares for Race

Volunteers distributed entry packets, answered questions and prepared for Saturday's race through St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes.

Friday was a day of preparation for organizers and participants of the Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon. Volunteers prepared the bicycle transfer area, distributed entry packets and answered questions from participants as the athletes arrived at Blossom Heath Park. Lynda Charow, race organizer, said there were 241 athletes registered for the race. Last year, the inaugural year, there were 191. The growth in the race has also been beneficial for local businesses. Simple Adventures kayak rental and delivery service has gone from renting two kayaks for the event to over 30 this year. The race starts at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Video: Hundreds Gather in St. Clair Shores for Relay for Life

Cancer survivors, their families, those who lost a loved one and their supporters took part in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in St. Clair Shores. The 24-hour fundraiser stepped off at noon Friday in Blossom Heath Park.

Hundreds of walkers are taking part in the 14th American Cancer Society Relay for Life of St. Clair Shores in Blossom Heath Park. A record 58 teams comprised of walkers from all ages signed up and donated to the event, including Ardmore Elementary School which held a recess relay and raised $719 for the Relay for Life.

Macomb County Beach Closures

High E. coli levels have closed two beaches to swimming in Macomb County.

The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. This bacteria lives in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals. If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea. One beach is closed due to the high levels: While the beaches are closed, the remainder of the park facilities remain open. (This story was updated at 5 p.m. Wednesday after a revised beach closing list was released by Macomb County.)

Photo Gallery: Shores-Pointe Adventure Triathlon

Athletes from across the country gather to compete in the inaugural event.

The first-ever Shores-Pointe Adventure Triathlon got underway Saturday morning beginning, and ending, in Blossom Heath Park. More than 175 athletes, from as far away as South Carolina, Colorado and Mexico and as close as St. Clair Shores itself, competed. The event consisted of a 2.1 mile kayak ride, followed by a 13.4 mile bike stage, and concluded with a 5K run. The bike stage took riders along the picturesque shoreline of Lake St. Clair via Lakeshore Drive.
