Mark and Cora Lijek, two of the American "houseguests" profiled in the Oscar-winning movie "Argo" will be in the St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade.
The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade will feature a number of veterans, local Scout groups, sports teams and the subjects of international intrigue who were featured in the Oscar-winning movie Argo. Detroit native Mark Lijek, and his wife Cora—who were two of the six Americans who took refuge in the Canadian embassy during the Iranian hostage crisis and were able to escape through an elaborate CIA plan—will be in the annual parade. "This is good news for the parade," said Councilwoman Candice Rusie, who made the announcement at a recent meeting. Members of the Lakeview Community Musical will hold a rehearsal tonight for a spaghetti dinner and fundraiser for Zach Howell, a 2012 Lakeview graduate who had brain tumor removed this summer.
Past and present members of the Lakeview Community Musical are invited to attend a rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Lakeview High School for an alumnus who had a brain tumor removed this summer. The community has come together to raise funds Zach Howell - an active member of the Lakeview band, school plays and class of 2012 graduate - and has held a candlelight vigil and rally for the St. Clair Shores teen. Members of the Lakeview Community Musical are asked to meet in the school's choir/orchestra room for rehearsal for Sept. 19 fundraiser at Assumption Cultural Center. The first of a series of fundraisers for the St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade will be held tonight at the Assumption Cultural Center.
Fundraising for the 60th annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade kicks off Thursday with a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Assumption Cultural Center. The dinner, catered by Marchiori Catering, is one of many planned in the coming weeks to help offset the costs of producing the event. These events range from dinners to a battle of the bands and T-shirts featuring the first ever logo for the parade. The logo was created by Lakeview High School junior Sarah Skoney, who was recently honored by City Council for her design being selected by a panel of veterans.
