Tickets Still Available for the Cops for Kids Dinner Cruise

It may be early for some people, but members of St. Clair Shores Cops for Kids are already thinking about Christmas and are holding fundraisers for to provide gifts and other items for those in need in the city.

School may just be back in session, but the members of the Cops for Kids organization are thinking about the holidays.

The all-volunteer program will be holding a number of fundraisers in the coming weeks to make sure children in need have presents Christmas morning.

Cops for Kids, which is led by St. Clair Shores police officers, provides gifts and other items to children and families during the holidays.

Upcoming fundraisers include:

  • A dinner cruise Sept. 13 aboard the. Boarding is at 6:30 p.m., with sailing at 7 p.m. and docking at 10 p.m. Tickets are $85 and include dinner and an open bar. For tickets and information call Officer Jeff Goode at (586) 445-5332.
  • A charity hockey game between theHockey Alumni against the Detroit Red Wings Alumni at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at . Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
  • Chili Wars V chili cookoff Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Admission is $8 and includes samples of all chili, soft drinks, coffee and dessert.

The large-scale Cops for Kids volunteer effort has grown since the organization's inception 37-years ago by St. Clair Shores police officers John St. Germane and Fred Marengo. The two officers responded to a police call at a home on Christmas and found the children did not have any presents.

The officers went to their own homes and brought gifts back to the house. This began a tradition that has continued at Christmas, and throughout the year, of helping up to 120 families in need annually in St. Clair Shores.
