Athletes from across Metro Detroit, and as far away as Texas, biked, ran and kayaked Saturday in the second .
The event, which included a 2.1 mile kayak race in Lake St. Clair, a 5K run through St. Clair Shores and a 11.1 bike through the Grosse Pointes, attracted 290 participants. Last year there were 191.
Greg Esler, St. Clair Shores Parks and Recreation Director, complimented the work done by event chairwoman Lynda Charow to stage the event in the city.
"I think anytime you have this number of people in the community, it showcases our city and what a great city we have," Esler said. "I think when you have people compete, and you have an event like this, it is nothing but good news for St. Clair Shores."
A large number of volunteers from the high schools in St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes, elected officials including St. Clair Shores Councilman John Caron who helped direct foot and bicycle traffic, along with other organizations, helped stage the event.
