Volunteers prepared the bicycle transfer area, distributed entry packets and answered questions from participants as the athletes arrived at.
Lynda Charow, race organizer, said there were 241 athletes registered for the race. Last year, , there were 191.
The growth in the race has also been beneficial for local businesses. Simple Adventures kayak rental and delivery service has gone from renting two kayaks for the event to over 30 this year.
The race starts at 7 a.m. Saturday.
