Tips for Running in Limited Daylight

The staff at Hanson's Running Shop share safety tips for runners hitting the road early in the morning or late at night.

Runners thinking about taking a long run during the shorter winter days can take steps to make themselves more visible to motorists, according to personnel from Hanson's Running Shop in Grosse Pointe Woods.

The issue was a topic for discussion on the Grosse Pointe Patch Facebook page recently when a reader stated in a post that he driving up Charlevoix from Alter in the morning darkness and saw four joggers in dark clothing running with no reflective gear.

According to the staff at Hason's, runners should:

  • Wear reflective gear on vests, their arm and legs.
  • Wear head lamps, light and arm lights.
  • Run on sidewalks.
