Threet Leaves Lakeview to Become Football Coach at Fraser

Pat Threet, who led Lakeview's football team to its first-ever playoff victory in 2010, will be the new coach at Fraser.

Pat Threet, who guided the football team to its , has left the program to become the head football coach at Fraser.

"It was a really hard thing just because there were a lot of great people, and, most importantly, an awesome group of kids,” said Threet, who also is a physical education teacher and baseball coach at Fraser. “But at the end of the day, to be in the same building where you teach, I kind of felt like it was important for me to do for my family and myself long term.”

Threet said he agonized over the decision.

“It was something that was really difficult, to say the least,” he said.

Threet took over at Lakeview in 2009, and he immediately turned around a program that had only one winning season in the previous 10 years, according to the Michigan High School Football website.

In 2009, Threet guided the Huskies to a 5-4 overall record. Last season, Threet led Lakeview to a berth in the state playoffs for the first time in school history. The Huskies finished with a 7-4 overall record, including a first-round playoff victory over Port Huron Northern.

He helped Lakeview claim a share of the MAC Silver Division championship, its first league title in nearly 30 years, and .

“All those things are great,” Threet said. “But honestly, the thing I'm most proud of is how well our coaches and players came together.”

Threet informed the players at Lakeview of his decision on Thursday, and he addressed the Fraser student-athletes on Friday.

He praised his now-former players—“Those kids were just awesome,” Threet said—as well as the parents and administration at Lakeview.

"Life's tough,” Threet said. “Sometimes you have tough decisions to make.”
