Spring Sports Season Continues for Local Squads

Local teams dodge weather as spring sports presses forward.

Admittedly, the weather for the opening week of the spring sports season wasn’t ideal.

In many cases, games were cancelled and meets postponed.

That said, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming week, weather-wise, and give you a healthy selection of game possibilities that you can catch if Mother Nature decides to cooperate.

Before we get into that, though, let's take a quick look back at some baseball played teams managed to get in despite the weather and spring break.

The Macomb County spring break tournament pitted some of the top squads in the Macomb Area Conference against one another, and among these were the baseball teams from and .

The , while Lake Shore finished the event with the same record. 

Both teams advanced out of pool play, but Lake Shore was eliminated in the opening round, 11-4, thanks to top-seeded Stevenson, while the Huskies ousted Avondale, 3-2, to move into the semifinals against Stevenson.

The Titans moved on, 11-2, thus knocking out Lakeview from the tourney.

If you want to see either of these ballclubs this week, you don’t have to travel any further than Kyte Monroe Park Thursday to watch the Shorians square off against rival at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Huskies host L’Anse Creuse North Tuesday at home. That game is also slated for a 4 p.m. start.
