Former Detroit Red Wings player Kirk Maltby and play-by-play announcer Ken Kal will ring the bell for the Salvation Army on Tuesday at the Kroger on Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores.

Kirk Maltby and Ken Kal want to outring their Detroit Red Wings counterparts.

Maltby, a former Red Wings player, and Kal, the team’s radio play-by-play voice, will ring the bell to raise money for the Salvation Army on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the Kroger on 31145 Harper Ave. in St. Clair Shores.

Kal is a St. Clair Shores resident.

Maltby and Kal will compete for bragging rights against teams of other Red Wings, including general manager Ken Holland, coach Mike Babcock and former players Chris Chelios, Kris Draper, Manny Legace and Chris Osgood. Those “teams” will appear at locations in Northville, Troy and Plymouth.

This is the seventh straight year the Red Wings and Salvation Army have teamed up through the “Red Wings for Red Kettles” campaign. The drive has raised $45,000 since 2005.
