Monster Quest Bass Tournament Comes to St. Clair Shores

Events for Saturday's Monster Quest VIII, one of the city's first major fishing tournament, will take place on shore and on the water.

A full day of events are planned on shore and on the water Saturday for Monster Quest VII, one of the first major bass fishing tournaments held in St. Clair Shores.

The tournament will launch from the 9 Mile boat ramp, with some of the first anglers heading out about 6 a.m. Saturday.

Currently there are 50 boats which have pre-registered for the tournament, which event organizer Terry Melvin said, "that is huge."

He expects additional anglers to register before the event. While the fishing will be on Lake St. Clair, there will be additional events near the launch site. Melvin stated that spectators can park in the Chapaton Basin lot, and will be shuttled to the launch area which will include:

  • Giveaways for spectators including guided Lake St. Clair trips, a six-foot party raft and free hot dogs.
  • There will also be musical performances by Mitch Washer, a contestant on "The Voice," and Brain Schram who has performed at the Bassmaster Classic.
  • After 2 p.m., the anglers will start coming and showing their catches off to spectators.

Melvin added that the bass that are caught will be kept alive and returned to the lake after the tournament.

In addition to being a competitive fishing tournament, with a $10,000 grand prize, proceeds from the event will benefit the St. Clair Shores Special Needs program.
