MAC Football Coaches Play Lochmoor Charity Outing

Coaches, alumni and staff from the Mid-American Conference played in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl's annual golf outing at Lochmoor Country Club.

Football coaches, athletic directors and alumni took to the links Monday at Lochmoor Country Club to raise funds charities supported by the Little Caesars Bowl and prepare for the coming season.

The golf outing, which preceded the Mid-American Conference Football Media Day at Ford Field, returned to Lochmoor for the second year and featured a number of Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores.

"This is a nice course and the coaches like this course," said Greg Hacias, vice president of marketing for the bowl and Grosse Pointe Park resident.

The top golfers for the day received framed photos donated by Craig Manning, president of the Quarterback Club and corporate accounts manager for Take 2 Authentics.

Manning also organized an auction of signed sports memorabilia, with proceeds benefiting bowl game charities.

In addition to the golf, current Michigan State University football coach Mark Dantonio and George Perles, who was one of the founders of the bowl game and former St. Ambrose football coach George Perles.

He spoke fondly of his time at St. Ambrose, and the support of Little Caesars founder Mike Ilitch.

"Little Caesars came to bat for us," Perles said. "(Mike) Ilitch is a good man."

The Little Caesars Bowl will hold its 15th game this year at Ford Field. Kick-off will be at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27. Bowl officials said the game will feature a team from the Mid American Conference and the Big Ten. 

Ken Hoffman, the CEO and executive director of the bowl, said the addition of the Nebraska to the Big Ten, "improves us significantly to get a Big Ten team."
