Lake Shore's Joseph Signs With William Penn

Travis Joseph will be trading the suburban neighborhoods of St. Clair Shores for the rural campus of William Penn University this fall to play football for the Oskaloosa, Iowa, school.

Joseph, who played in the fullback position in 's spread offense, looks to play the fullback or diveback in William Penn's triple-option offense.

While he is not anticipating starting as a freshman, he hopes to chip away at playing time by playing a role on special teams and go from there.

"It would be a good goal for me to set," Joseph said. "It is all going to depend on how hard I work."

On Wednesday at Lake Shore, Joseph signed his letter to intent to play for William Penn in a ceremony with his parents Pamela and Marty Joseph and football coach Tom Iwanicki.

While he is going to play football and will be receiving a scholarship that will pay for nearly 75 percent of his schooling, Joseph is looking forward to his time in the classroom.

"I am more focused on the schooling before the football," said Joseph, who is planning to be a business major. "I want to get a good education."

Joseph played varsity football for Lake Shore for three years. He also was on the wrestling and baseball teams during his high school career. This spring he will be joining the track team.

"He is very intense ... he is self-motivated," Iwanicki said. "He was just a very good all-around player."

Before he heads off to college, Joseph will be one of 44 players who will be playing on the east all-star on June 30 at the Michigan High School Coaches Association All Star Game at Central Michigan University.

His mom, Pamela, beamed during the ceremony and shared a tip for other parents—"have your children set goals."

"Travis has always set goals and he has always reached them," she said. "When you reach those goals, it pursues you to do better. You get confidence in yourself and you grow."
