Lake Shore Plans to Honor Football Past, Celebrate New Season at Kickoff

To celebrate the start of the football season Aug. 23, Lake Shore High School is planning a number of events to mark the start of the season against historic city rival South Lake.

Students may have just gotten out of school, but members of the Quarterback Club are counting down the days until the football season begins Aug. 23 with a game against city rival .

Plans are in the works for a special student tailgate party before the game complete with a traveling video board from New Life Media, a section recognizing the history between the two schools, and a classic matchup on the field.

As part of the celebration, club members are seeking documents from the earliest years of the rivalry, which dates backs to the 1920s.

Manning is working with Lake Shore and the Mount Clemens Library to find stories and anecdotes about the rivalry between the two teams. Historical items from South Lake were lost in a fire that destroyed the Board of Education office in the late 1990s.

If readers of Patch have historical documents from the 1920s or 1930s, or may have a relative who played on one of those early teams, contact editor Edward Cardenas by email, or by calling 586-404-7927, and we'll help share the information with the Quarterback Club.
