SCS Country Club Seeing Extra Rounds This Winter

Nearly 700 rounds have been played at the St. Clair Shores Country Club this year.

There have been 690 rounds of golf played since Jan. 1, according to Rob Spinazzola, golf course office manager.

In addition to giving golfers a jump on the 2012 season, each round played this year has included a $1 capital improvement surcharge approved by city council earlier this year.

The extra $1 fee is put in an escrow account, which will be maintained by the city's finance department and will be used for future improvements at the golf course, including golf cart and bridge repairs and replacement of trees.

"(The fee) will be used to keep our golf course competitive and well-run for the users," City Manager Ben Hughes said in January when the fee was considered by City Council.

The golf course will remain open today, but all carts must be in by 6 p.m., Spinazzola said.
