DYC Detroit APBA Gold Cup Has Deep Ties to Macomb County

The unlimited hydroplanes return to the Detroit River this weekend for the APBA Gold Cup, which features a number of sponsors and organizers from Macomb County.

When some of the fastest boats in the world take to the Detroit River this weekend for the DYC Detroit APBA Gold Cup, Grosse Pointe and Macomb County-businesses and individuals will play a big role in the event.

One of the biggest commitments for the 104th Gold Cup race is Harrison Township-based Jarvis Property Restoration, which is sponsoring the event.

“I fell in love with the sport instantly and would come to the races with clients and staff, all of whom enjoyed the excitement of the event,” said Bill Jarvis, owner of Jarvis Property Restoration, of Chesterfield Township, in a release. “Each year we got more involved, even sponsoring three different boats that competed against each other. Events like this are what keep Detroit moving. We must ensure that it continues for another 100 years.”

Two companies owned by Romeo-native Kid Rock, Made In Detroit and Badass Beer, stepped up and sponsored "Free Friday" which will include time trials, testing and qualifying.

“Thanks to the generosity and support from Kid Rock, Made In Detroit and American Badass Beer, we are able to once again offer Free Friday, which historically has been one of our biggest community-focused days at the races,” said Macomb County resident Mark Weber, who is the event director for the Eastpointe-based Detroit River Regatta Association, which organizes the race.

Additionally businesses and organizations such as the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and Ahee Jewelers are also sponsoring the race, and Macomb County-based Andiamo Restaurants will be catering Club Gold Cup.
