Big Week Ahead for Softball, Golf and Rugby

All three local schools' prep squads promise fans variety and excitement.

Well sports fans, the weather promises to be a touch better this week. So, working under that assumption, we here in the Pick of the Week Department are going to bring you a slate of upcoming games with the hopes that you actually might be able to see them.

The rain outs, delays and postponements have been nothing short of unprecedented and haven’t done much to get anybody fired up about the season.

That, however, changes this week.

We believe we’re going to actually get some games in this week.

But, before we look ahead—we’re going to take a quick look back at some of the more notable happenings last week (of the few games that actually got played).

Kudos to the improving girls soccer team for ousting Port Huron Northern, 6-1, last week, and ’s soccer squad for getting the best of Centerline, 4-1, as well.

Great job, ladies.

We also have to tip our caps to ’s golf team, who kept their top spot in the Macomb Area Conference Blue with a 167-183 win over L’Anse Creuse North recently. The boys also beat Marysville High, 161-171.

Now, let’s take a look (with our fingers crossed) at the week ahead:

  • South Lake’s golf team locks horns with rival Lake Shore Tuesday afternoon at the St. Clair Shores Country Club beginning at 2:30 p.m.
  • If you’re looking for something a little offbeat, I would strongly encourage you to head out to Jefferson Middle School Thursday at 5 p.m. and catch some boys rugby. The Huskies battle Howell High in a sport that is both exciting and interesting for fans.
  • It might be a hike, admittedly, but the game between Lakeview and Ike softball Thursday afternoon promises to be worth the trip. Both teams are among the best in the Macomb Area Conference White (the Huskies are currently the top team in the division) and both are playing well thus far this season. The game starts at 4 p.m.
