Two Bands from the Shores Qualify for State Finals

Lakeview and South Lake to compete Saturday at Ford Field.

Two marching bands from the Shores have been selected to compete on a statewide stage.

The bands from and qualified for the state finals and will perform Saturday at Ford Field.

The Michigan Competing Bands Association, which sponsors the state finals, divides high school bands into four flights depending on the number of students enrolled at the school.

Lakeview is in Flight II and will compete against schools including Farmington, Wyandotte Roosevelt and Farmington Harrison. The band is scheduled to perform at 1:15 p.m.

South Lake is in Flight IV and will compete against bands including Comstock Park, Newaygo and Belding. South Lake is scheduled ot perform at 7:45 p.m.

In order to make it to the finals, bands from across the state compete on Saturdays through September and October and are scored by a panel of judges on the musical, visual and general effect of each performance. Their scores are tallied throughout the two months to determine the finalists.
